Community Chest (in General)

BootyGod August 22 2006 6:50 PM EDT

New Idea: I apologize in advance for it's length, but I figure if you care you will read it anyways.

I was trying to think of a way to bring back one of (i thought) the funnest things ever. G_Beee giving stuff away. Was great i thought. So here is my idea, for you, the community! =D

I have created a character Community Chest (actually renamed, 150k down the drain, so you know I taking this seriously).

My idea is that it become a community way to bring back what G gave: Random fun =D

The Community Chest will be accepting cash from players (or items technically as thats the point). Anyone who contributes even a decent amount will be given a say as to what it will do. Examples of things to be done with the cash:

1) Buying items from auctions and then putting them BACK into auctions for about... hmm... whatever the players who contribute decide. So if you say $1 thats cool, but then it will take more donations to keep it going. if you say for half of NW+ lowest normal auction value then we do it more often, but only players with at least decently deep pockets take part.

2) Contributing to CB milestones. Like when we hit the 100 millionth battle (woot by the way lol) it could have contributed whatever donors thought would be wise.

3) Aiding contests hosted by Jon, or aiding contests that are agreed to be fun and all that stuff =D

Some more comments about this. No transfers from this character to any other. For ANY reason. Only to stores and auctions.
I will be keeping the times varied, so if i decide to throw an item out, it won't be at the same time of the day over and over again. Will also mess around with chat options so whether I am in chat or not will make no difference.

Will mix it up. If an exec is given away one day, giving away a CML the next would be more interesting, and not so repetitive.

So here it basically is. You contribute money, I contribute fun. This might not go anywhere, but I hope it does. Also even if it DOES get tons of contributions today, I won't be starting for awhile. I will want to make sure of what everyone wants from this.

Two more issues: One is trust. If you don't trust me to do this, I won't feel bad. Maybe you would feel more comfortable if someone else handled it. If you believe that, let me know and I try to find someone else willing if they won't volunteer.

Last one: The public record fund will be going into retirement. I will be reviewing past cases and assigning the last money it has to the most recent people who were scammed. I want to clean it out so as not to have two community characters on one account. I am sure that won't sit right for anyone.

So post advice, thoughts, flames, and (if possible) happiness at this suggestion.

I am also looking at running a for profit lottery with this (sorry Flamey, but lotteries will generate alot of money, might not happen though, because I have to ask for permission to run a profit contest, even though it's for a good reason lol)

Send all donations to character Community Chest.

Random contests with awesome prizes FTW!

A great way for players to get rid of "extra" gear, and a great way for people with shallow pockets to grab some nice items!

BootyGod August 22 2006 7:40 PM EDT

hehehe thanks Slayer :)

thats kind of the plan

Flamey August 23 2006 12:02 AM EDT

its a good idea.

about the lottery, the community doesn't seem to have too much interest as of late, but best of luck :)

QBJohnnywas August 23 2006 3:19 AM EDT

I can't see a downside, apart from a scarceness of donations from some of the NCBer's lol :)

And then maybe we need to get you a big white beard and a red outfit, a sleigh and some reindeer....

AdminNightStrike August 23 2006 5:07 AM EDT

The lottery wouldn't be for profit, as all of the profits are just poured back into the community.

Also, regarding the PR Fund..... any word on any of the many millions I lost? I ask because there's some more on the way.... like, on the order of another 20 or so.

BootyGod August 23 2006 7:56 AM EDT

lol Nightstrike. The PRF only has about 1 million or so left. I am trying to determine who gets how much. As of now I am undecided and another reasons I started this is because no one really was getting behind the PRF anymore lol. But maybe they will with this.

Edit to first post:

There will be times when I may need to transfer money/ items to a character for a contest. In that case I will make it know what is going on.

Also I had another idea for what this could be used for if it gets more contributions. Giving out awards to QBs. Doesn't have to be alot but I figure might as well give them a little something extra :)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] August 23 2006 8:29 AM EDT

I'm against giving awards to QBs. ;) Don't want having QB in front of your name leading to 'us' and 'them'.

We're just CB community members like everyone else.

But then, if you wanna give me say a Corn, just out of the goodness of your heart, I won't object! :P

Brakke Bres [Ow man] August 23 2006 9:31 AM EDT

i like the idea of the chest.
But selling to the store i think its a bad idea.
Then you get a new generation of store campers.
The idea of auctions i like.

Why don't you ask for Jon the range of Id numbers. Put those numbers in a big "barrel" and draw a few out of them.
Of course making sure the player you give it to is atleast 1 month active use to prevent giving something to new player and he/she quits after 2 days.

miteke [Superheros] August 23 2006 10:13 AM EDT

Yea, I like auctions too. Start an auction with a 1 hour timespan and a low start value and watch the fun begin.

BootyGod August 23 2006 10:18 AM EDT

lol GL it won't seperate you. Besides, it's not like Jon picks. The whole game has a hand in the decision. If they don't feel you are worth an item, then why they feel you are worthy of the title? Besides it's just one gift lol but if players don't want it I won't insist.

Henk it won't be frequent enough to bring back camping. I will make sure of it. And I don't like the idea of "random" choice. Takes all the fun out of getting a prize from auctions or store. But yes, I see the downside to doing store sells. Thats why I think using auctions and making the buying price like 200k. Most people who been playing for awhile have that much spare and someone been playing for 2 days won't. So what everyone think?

Negator August 23 2006 11:41 AM EDT

(I must respond to this, because Godwolf threatened to CM-carp me if I didn't pay enough attention to this wonderful thread.)

I am not entirely clear how this will operate, but anything that injects more fun into CB is a good idea! As for trust, there are few people here that I would trust more than Godwolf (and I don't just say that out of fear of a sound carping, either!).

Thanks for investing your energy into the atmosphere of the place, GW.

AdminNightStrike August 23 2006 2:24 PM EDT

"Besides, it's not like Jon picks. The whole game has a hand in the decision."

Thin ice, man... thin ice.....

(Sidenote: how about sending gifts to people who *should* be QBs........................................)

BootyGod August 23 2006 5:13 PM EDT

lol thats not what I mean Nightstrike. If Jon reads this I am sorry! What I meant was that the players pick, so why should it bother them if the person they picked gets an extra reward lol?

Sorry, not what I meant.

Thanks Negator. I am planning on starting a forge/ auctions business going (eventually) and will probably be putting some proceeds into it. Will take awhile though.

BootyGod August 24 2006 9:56 AM EDT

Thanks to Death for the nice gear =D

QBOddBird August 24 2006 10:49 AM EDT

The players don't pick, they just vote and get their say in ;)

And I will put my two cents in to say that this does sound like a fantastic plan.

BootyGod August 24 2006 10:54 AM EDT

lol how about literally put your two cents in? rofl j/k

QBOddBird August 24 2006 11:02 AM EDT

BMWheatIey (BlueWater) 206.148.180.176 Godwolf (Community Chest) $2 -- two cents. 11:01 AM EDT

On a side note, that actually cost me $3!!! The transfer fee was a $1! Outrageous.

BootyGod August 24 2006 11:19 AM EDT

That does seem kind of disturbing lol.

We still need more stuff. I understand that alot of the more... generous... players are broke but keep the Community Chest in mind when you start reclaiming your fortunes lol!

BootyGod August 25 2006 10:27 AM EDT

Decided something today.
All money from my two farms will go to Community Chest. So in like a year I can give away a morg lol =D

Make giving like 5k a week myself will motivate some of you others to do the same.

BootyGod August 25 2006 11:22 AM EDT

Your auction for A Compound Bow [5x7] (+6) has sold for $5.

lol not much I know, but I just wanted to help some new player out. (didn't cost CC any money) I spent my own money on that one.

BootyGod September 16 2006 2:24 PM EDT

Just advising everyone to keep entering the contests. Remember they are for charity, and as such, would be beneficial to whole community as well as winner of contests!

Also bumping so people who didn't read the first time can read again!
