Help! I need some DM, but I have AMF.... (in General)

chuck1234 August 22 2006 9:21 PM EDT

I have an AMF 200k, which comes pretty useful against DD spells, and especially in coutering Decay; and combined with my Balrog, I can easily take on big DM+FB teams. The problem arises when I confront AMF teams, especially those that have trained GA and VA. I need to use some DM to get rid of these enchantments, but I am afraid it might interfere with my AMF.

So, what's the solution? With an AMF 200k, can I build a DM of say 50k, and will that in any way cut down on my AMF to 150k effectively?

You lose AMF equivalent to the effect you have trained in DM.
Only way around this is using a different tattoo (RoS).

Well then, I suppose I can put a RoE on the AMF minion to boost the rate of increase to say 250k, and put up a 50k DM on another minion. This ought to retain my AMF at 200k, and give me DM protection against irksome GA.

At your PR people usually have GAs at around 150k-280k... otherwise they just don't know what they're doing.

I personally think DM and AMF just don't mix. If they did I'd have a completely invincible build, but they don't. So you gotta choose between an AMF for mages or a DM for AS/GA/VA.

2-300k GA at 300k MPR? I suppose I've never known what I was doing. =\

DM casts at 80% of its trained level so a 50k DM will knock off 40k AMF.

get an RoS, problem solved it also boosts your ED on that minion it is equipped to

Yep, i bit the bullet. Protection [46k at lvl 18] on my Mage was wasted anyway against huge DM teams, so I undid it and trained DM 44k giving effective DM 35k.

The results? For the most, AMF has been cut insignificantly, sure a drop of a few points everywhere, but that doesn't hurt. What helps, on the other hand, is the DM cutting opponent GA. Thus, when my MM hits 80k, I don't have to bother about 60 percent slashing me in return, the retaliation I experienced with one team was 7k. The removal of protection did increase the HP damage per hit, especially where the previous protection was at a full level 18, but this loss isn't fatal, and is compensated by the protection against GA.

All in all, I am happy with this limited DM addition to my repertoire.

As for the RoS, well, I don't know, it does sound pretty, but when I used it earlier, it wasn't as effective as the RoBF.

The RoS is like the 3rd best tat out there the RoBF does not even compare. Go with a RoS.

Hmmm, you folks do have a point about the tattoo. Maybe I can re-ink the Balrog 215k into a Rune of Solitude or a Tattoo of Endurance. Its a toss-up, but depends on whether I can get a correct strat for the ToE, else as you say, the RoS will suit just fine, esp since I want to combine AMF and DM. Plus, a MgS on my tank could take care of the FB damage that'd open with the loss of RoBF.

Ok, so now I have a 218k Rune of Solitude :)

The whole team was in a mess. I had set GA at full blast, but that was not doing any good, coz the whole team was being vaporised in the first few rounds. Plus, all the untraning, etc. was cutting 10 percent every time I did that, and I must 've done it quite a few times already, the MPR shows a distinct dip. To top this decline, I was losing in the first few rounds, all coz of low HP, to opponents I'd beaten comfortably earlier.

Aaargghh!!! Talk of quitting, this is the low when you just feel like signing off and never returning again :(

So, I said to myself, if my chumps are going to give up the ghost so fast, what's the sense of GA. So, I untrained that whole stuff again, luckily getting 95 pc back, and trained that whole lot into Ablative Shield.

Now, things are turning sane again. The AS on the minion with the RoS overcomes large opponent DMs, so my minions last longer, and are back to defeating those opponents who were for a teeny weeny bit of timek, getting on top of them.

This is my team composition now:
E - DM 40k can go to 50k, AS 150k, due to RoS on this minion
E - Decay, AoI, AMF 200k
T - Archery, MH, ELB [i still need to upgrade these to higher powers]
M - MM 137k, but gives max 100k in rounds, usually 50-80k

Unfortunately, this means that I have to give up the idea of the wall. The first E in whom I put DM and AS, I had planned as a Wall with max HP and PL and huge armour. Guess I'll need to put back into circulation a couple of items I had bought at auction and then upgraded :)

Thanks all of you, UncleKracker, BMW, Border for your contribution; and of course to the RoS fans, novice and Angel, yep, I am now comfortable with the RoS.
