Travel Tips: Quebec City (in Off-topic)

Anyone from Quebec City or know the city well?

I'm going there in October for business for 4 days and taking my fiancee. Need tips on where to go, where to eat, where to shop. Also, is there a good museum there? We're staying in Old Quebec.

I hope you know some French. Those people are very snooty when it comes to speaking English.

Ugh buddy who posted before me... I think you got Quebec mistakened for France.

Little bit of advice, don't tell anyone you're American or how great the USA is. I'm sure the people there will act as though they love American tourists, but in reality they all think of Americans as fat and stupid... which I guess is true.

And try not to check out all the Canadian babes while your fiancee is around. It probably won't be easy since there's so many, but you better get used to what marriage is gonna be like.

Jib? Fiancee? Do tell! ;)

In my experience, the people in Quebec City _can_ be more "snooty" than those in France, but it really depends on the person. If you know even basic French, I suggest trying to use it (i.e. try to speak French when ordering at a restaurant, or when asking directions, etc.) - they'll probably treat you better.

If you're in the old city, I'm guessing that you're staying at Le Chateau Frontenac, which is a pretty impressive "castle" at the center of the district. Very nice, very close to everything, should be a very impressive view out the windows.

There are stores, boutiques, restaurants, and things to do all over Old Quebec, and since it's not too large an area, it should be too hard to find what you're looking for. I'm just a poor student, so I tend not to go to the fancy restaurants or shops, but I believe there are some. The best ones are probably in the Chateau.

I think there are a few museums around, but I don't think I've gone to any. I typically just walk around the district taking photos. Don't miss the lower part of the old city, which is closer to the harbour. There are a couple of large staircases to go down to that section, and one of them has a very good view of a nice-looking street from the top.

I've looked around a bit when there, but I've never found much of interest in Quebec City outside of the old city. Feel free to ask me any questions, and have fun when there! :)

Oh yeah, UncleKracker is right: there typically are a lot of babes in the province of Quebec (those French women!), but not so many in the very tourist-packed Old Quebec. Maybe that's a good reason to look around the rest of the city? ;)

I you can't speak french, that's okay. Most people will still welcome you with a smile if you can at least make the effort of greeting them in french. A simple bonjour could change everything.

The keyword here is effort. Show the people there that you are willing to learn a couple of words and they should be satisfied.

I know I would.

Bon voyage!

"Parlez vous Anglais" is all the French one needs to know ;)

Fortunately, I know French pretty well. maelstrom, you're correct. I'm getting a suite at the Frontenac. I understand it's pretty nice. Oh yeah, I got engaged in May. Not worried about hot canadian girls. I got myself a pretty blonde hair, blue eyed girl with an athletic build, great personality, laid back, and funny. I got lucky.

Are there any particular restaurants, shops, or other places that is MUST SEE? I really don't know anything about Quebec. The person at the hotel told me that I most definitely won't need a car because everything I'd want to see is within walking distance.

/me knows next to nothing about Quebec

But, yeah if the sites are all within walking distance... just start walking around. Seriously, as long as you two will just have fun walking there isn't any reason not to. And will make it better because each new site will be something you weren't expecting. And, of course, if you need help just ask someone. Or let your fiance do it you "manly man" rofl j/k
