NCB time! Strat help please.. (in General)

IndependenZ August 26 2006 4:51 AM EDT

I'm starting an NCB character in a few days, and I've thought up a little strategy. Unarmed Combat has always intrigued me so I'm staying with that. Here's what I thought:

Minion 1:
Attributes: HP/MM/AMF/VA
Ratio: 30%, 30%, 30%, 10%
Equipment: RoE, basic leathers (or AG, Corn, DB and possibly an AoI)
(later on, the RoE will be replaced by a big Jig)

Minion 2:
Attributes: HP/ST/DX/UC
Ratio: 22%, 22%, 22%, 33%
Equipment: Gi, EC, EB, HG, HoE, axbow (possibly an AoM)

So is there anything wrong here? Feel free to comment, your help is greatly appreciated.

i don't think your mage will even do you good, with the amount dedicated to MM, its not much.

you can switch to an Enchanter, train HP or not and just AMF and VA accordingly.

i suggest a base protection, that 4% or so can't do you wrong. on your tank that is.

if you stick with actually have the Mage, use all enhancing gear, your stats are very spread out and need bonuses. i.e. AG and Corn. DB isn't to necessary as you need a to big pair to make them effective. and if your UC tank works out good your evasion will take care of the tanks landing double hits.

and i think you should use an ELB, you'll probably need it and now it really is good, doesn't even have to be big.

my ELB 700k NW is hitting 80% of my VB 1.9 mil NW. you do the math. you can see that ELB's help a lot.

use an AoM, train more natural DX compared to ST and let the AoM take care of it, you need an Amulet it is a must.

also how are you starting out? mage with an RoE or UC tank then add mage with an RoE to catch up?

Well, I figured I wouldn't do enough damage with UC alone. The Magic Missile could help me a lot, especially since it attacks from the rear. But I see your point, the XP gets diluted with this setup.

About the corns and amulets and such, I don't have unlimited funds and will need money for buying BA too. I've already got the UC gear though. Same goes for the axbow, mine is the 5th largest in the game. And I think the DX advantage works better than the damage an elbow does.. it helps my UC finish him off easily, and helps me from getting hit as well. Anyway, if I have the money, I'll buy better items, but for now I'm stuck with the leathers.

I was planning to start out equally, with the mage and the UC tank. The mage will need the extra XP it gets from the RoE.

Okay, Flamey has convinced me the mage is not worth it. I'll turn it into an enchanter (AMF/VA) with base decay and add base protection to the tank.

i would do this for your mage
1/10 VA (if you would keep it) 1/10 AMF 1/3 HP and rest on MM and i think a ToA or ToE would be better then a Jig

Decay would be good when you don't face AMF. :) It hits from the fronts, and will hit beofre your UC tank.

I second the decay suggestion, with the hoard of ToA boosted DM loving archers on the way, you'll be set!

IndependenZ August 27 2006 4:27 PM EDT

Ah okay, base decay it is then. Thanks!

Negator August 27 2006 5:45 PM EDT

Not sure what the experience of other people is, but base Decay has hurt me much more than it ever hurt other people.

I can imagine it maybe being good while you are climbing over the corpses of characters that were never played properly, but any practically-sized AMF will slay your enchanter faster than any tank could, thereby reducing his efficiency as a meat shield. Once you get to about the 400K MPR (which is where I tried it), AMF is so commonly used as to make base Decay counterproductive.

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] August 28 2006 1:37 PM EDT

When you have an NCB character, BA costs over 500 apiece. At least that's what happened when I started my char. If you're saving your resources for buying BA, it'll probably end up being more expensive than buying a Corn and AGS.

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] August 28 2006 1:38 PM EDT

Yeah. It was over 500 apiece when I started this character, and I just checked and it said I can buy 648 BA for 647 each. That's almost 420k a day in BA purchases. And it only goes up.

horseguy001 [Blender 2021] August 28 2006 1:43 PM EDT

I was under the impression if you got rid of the bigger char the cost of BA went right down to normal again.

IndependenZ August 28 2006 2:01 PM EDT

It should go down, but not to it's usual rate. BA costs are always more expensive when using the NCB.

And I still prefer to buy BA instead of equip. It's basically one Corn versus a lot of MPR and clan points.. :)
