Scanning software? (in Off-topic)

I just bought a Canon Pixma mp170 this a scanner, printer, copier in one.

The printing and coping works great, however the scanning part is the problem.

The software i got with the all-in-one doesn't communicate with the scanner.
The software is called MP navigator 2.0
However the windows scanning program does work. (or any other TWAIN or WIA compatible program)

This makes me dead sure it the software fault and not the scanner fault.
I updated the drivers, i reinstalled the program.
That doesn't work.

Any suggestions how i can make the software work with the scanner?
Or any other good scan software that i can use with this?

thanks!

Scanner is listed as 'good' on the SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) supported hardware list. So it should work with any program that uses SANE as a back end.
For testing purposes, booting from a Knoppix CD-rom should work. From there, either use Xsane, Gimp or some other program to access your scanner.
