Server trouble? (in General)

Maelstrom October 19 2006 12:24 PM EDT

I've been having trouble connecting to CB all morning. Around 10am server time, I was actually getting an error message, though I didn't bother copying it.

Anyone else?

QBJohnnywas October 19 2006 12:25 PM EDT

Yup, all day.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] October 19 2006 12:25 PM EDT

I had it for a while earlier also.

I was not able to log on from6 to 11, then it worked for half an hour, and went down again until now.

Maelstrom October 19 2006 12:39 PM EDT

OK, that's a relief. No one else made a post, so I thought it might just be me... :S

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] October 19 2006 12:49 PM EDT

Started at cache flush, I think. Back for bit, then gone again.

horseguy001 [Blender 2021] October 19 2006 1:15 PM EDT

It was just down again...and I got credited 80 BA

Maelstrom October 20 2006 3:16 PM EDT

And we're back up :)

What's going on with all the server trouble these days?

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] October 20 2006 3:23 PM EDT

Didn,t all this stuff start when CB was moved? Could we all spam the server company to upgrade the ?line? Would it help??

Hyrule Castle [Defy] October 20 2006 3:31 PM EDT

idk, but it sure would be nice to get some BA on account i lost about... 160*3 ba... im no mathmatician but i think thats 480? And if it is no trouble on top of that... add idk to the dictionary?

bartjan October 20 2006 4:04 PM EDT

Today's issues were not server related, but has to do with the Internet connectivity CB (does not) have.
If I visit the ISP's homepage, I see that it recently merged with another ISP. Around the same time the connectivity issues started. Coincidence?

QBsutekh137 October 20 2006 4:43 PM EDT

Hyrule, when _everyone_ loses BA related to something entirely out of Jonathan's control, what would be the point of giving it back?

And if you don't have tile to type "i don't know" as opposed to "idk"... Well, then how do you have time to post at all?

Maelstrom October 20 2006 4:48 PM EDT

And, certainly, "i don't know" what to do if you don't have tile to type :S

AdminNightStrike October 20 2006 4:50 PM EDT

Sut, it hurts bonus users. If your char has a bonus, one day is equal to about 6 or 7 days in the account of someone starting from day one. You effectively lose 7 straight days of fighting. If you didn't fight with your main character for a full week, what would happen? How far behind would you fall?

Hyrule Castle [Defy] October 20 2006 5:06 PM EDT

well idk about u but i like to type as l33t as i can, and take as many Scuts as poss.

So in ure face.

now as i have abreviated a whole lot of stuff, i am going to have to type a whole lengthy paragraph so that i can get past the stupid spell checker... not that i dont like it, but i think i should get special privelages cause im bomb.

thank you that is all... now can we talk about the current issue at state, the server problems, not my abbreviations and shortcuts...?

another thing would be the comma after the "n" in don't.. that one gets me a lot because i dont like to... also typing the "be" in because... thats lengthy too

QBsutekh137 October 20 2006 5:08 PM EDT

NS, that one is going to fall on deaf ears with a big "whaa fricking whaa".

Here's why:

Veteran A who started on January 1, 2005 (e.g. Tezmac) has been dealing with downtimes, changes, vacations, personal issues, distractions, jobs, studies, etc. for 657 days.

Now, let's say a Newbie (or NCB) is right in the middle of a bonus period and loses a day. One day out of 60 (less than one-tenth the grueling period spent by the veteran). Even being close to the end of the period means the NUB/NCB person has only been "at it" for 120 days -- less than 20% of a veteran's time.

You're going to ask for compensation on that? What about when downtimes occur exactly during nighty-night for international users? They get extra BA on top of not losing any in the first place? It's not hard to think of all the reasons why downtime cannot (and should not, imo) be accounted for. That part of Carnage Blender is real life, no matter how much we might want to escape from it.

QBsutekh137 October 20 2006 5:10 PM EDT

Hyrule, that just made me chuckle...the most all week! I love it!

By the way, the thingy after the "n" in "don't" is called an "apostrophe", not a "comma".

*smile*

I don't have tile for this...

bartjan October 20 2006 5:12 PM EDT

I have the impression that most of the recent downtimes happened during European daytime... so if there is any kind of compensation, we need to figure out how to distribute said compensation...

Hyrule Castle [Defy] October 20 2006 5:15 PM EDT

an apostraphe is basically a flying comma... so yea!

QBsutekh137 October 20 2006 5:16 PM EDT

bartjan crystallized my ramblings quite effectively. *smile*

ChingChang October 20 2006 5:21 PM EDT

Its too be expected from any game, really not a bigg deal-just be happy its back up and working.

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] October 20 2006 7:53 PM EDT

Ha ha a flying comma good one!

Karmic Mishap [Soup Ream] October 21 2006 12:57 AM EDT

bartjan is most likely correct. I work at an ISP myself, and I can tell you that migrations/merges like that can and often will be problematic. I hope Jon's ISP has been acquired by a more competent one. ^^;;
