Oct. 30th I am officially unemployed due to this lengthy illness, premiums have not been paid up on long/short term dis. (office snafu, hopefully worked out soon). Have some basic programming skills (extremely rusty :( cobol,c++,java) Honestly have not done any in better than 8 years. Proficient with Office Suite not near as rusty as the others, some HTML etc etc....quick learner for a 41 yr old (lol) The daily surveys are ok, but 30 bucks a week only covers kids lunches for school...not looking for handouts , don't want pity..If anyone can point me in the right direction towards self sustaining from this broken chair I would be most great full. Thanks for your time if you actually read this far :)

The only thing I know of that is (a) not a scam and (b) has the potential to do better than minimum wage is Google Answers. (See also wikipedia.) In 2003 one researcher estimated answers averaged about $7.50/hr (PDF), although your guess is as good as mine whether that has gone up or down since.

To really do well working from home you need to have some kind of expertise, and be able to promote yourself. Blogs are great tools for self-promotion, but it takes time to establish those, even if you've already got the expert part taken care of. If not, expect to put in 10 years, give or take a couple.

Bummer :

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Google Answers Researcher.

Because of an overwhelming response by qualified candidates, we are temporarily not accepting additional applications. Please check back with us again, as we likely will begin accepting applications again in the near future.
