ELB cth and pth... (in General)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] October 31 2006 6:21 PM EST

I'm seeing what appears to be a less than 100% chance to hit with an elb in round 3 of ranged, anyone else finding that not only does the dex gap not always give you a second hit, but that even having the + above 100 may not always get you a third hit...

I'm using a +50 ELB with +20 seekers to test this, so maybe I've done something wrong. I just spend the first month of this NCB dumping money into my plus to hit and finally hit +50 today, I was hoping to see my first triple hit (without the seekers)
but alas not a single one during the BA I had left, tried it with what should be +60 arrows, firmly convinced I was going to see a nice solid triple hit...nothing.

The compromise that Jon seemed to have been making with the last change is already exceedingly harsh, the elb went from a must have item up high, to a rather questionable investment. Do we really need to completely make it useless with additional penalties? I could lose my entire fightlist to token evasion already,
why make it so hard to hit the few remaining teams without it?

If the elb was too good before the change (which I in my infinite stupidity thought it was), why not fix it. This cycle of inventing new ways to negate powerful items/spells/etc rather than try and balance them has once again gotten frustrating enough I broke my promise to quit complaining...sorry...

I have a +66 elb that you can test with if you like.

I'm not too experienced in the those technical areas.

but, ELB do not seem worth it, well according to auctions they don't, why bother using ranged if there is an enchanter with less than a 1/4 xp into evasion negating your 5 mil ELB or some other big amount, seems fair? i don't think so.

Archery, hmmm, crap. all it does is give a 100% CTH on round 2 doesn't it? who needs it, as i stated why even using a ranged weapon, just get BL and pump money into the melee weapon instead.

lovely, "CTH" is not in the spell check :)

On my last NCB I was renting an ELB with +102, wearing a 900k level ToA with it's bonus PTH I was still missing, or hitting doubles at best against base dex mages and enchanters - with no DBs or evasion in sight. Once that would have given me quad strikes against some people....

Whereas before the changes I was using an x30 compound and getting triples.

But remember Nov, it is now a lot easier to get much higher damage....what does it matter if you can't hit people.....:/

"Why not fix it."

Ranged has now become more of an appitiser, instead of the main course. ;) Which being 3 rounds out of 25 is only reasonable.

We really don't want to go back to one minion dead per ranged round do we?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] November 1 2006 5:04 AM EST

When I mean fix it, I'm talking about balancing damage done so that there is no need to slap additional penalties on something that has already been nerfed to ghenna (the place of burning). Seeing my enchanter get more double hits with a +10 SoD is starting to depress me...

Brakke Bres [Ow man] November 1 2006 12:00 PM EST

Go SoD its your birthday, were gonna party like its your birthday. ^_^
Ranged who needs it anyway? Your better of getting DD for ranged.
To bad Jon didn't made a DD spell which only fires in ranged. Now that would be funny.
And elb was before the change overrated and overpowered.
Im glad the emphasis lies in melee.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] November 1 2006 12:10 PM EST

Henk, I would love a Ranged only DD.

I would make it my mistress, shower it with gifts befitting my wife. Jepodise my marriage for it. ;)

QBOddBird November 1 2006 6:46 PM EST

*gasps* But you wouldn't even do that for ME when I offered, GL!!!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] November 1 2006 7:37 PM EST

Ranged only DD > OB

True Story!

;)

(Soz OB, I'll make it up to you. How about a *Big Man Hug* for starters?)

So what's the word on how CTH works with bows in ranged?

Adminedyit [Superheros] November 2 2006 7:04 PM EST

from the change log

"without archery you will have about 20% of the chance-to-hit that you would have with maxed-out archery. Interpolation between these extremes is linear. (That is, 20% of both DX and non-DX based chance.)
Bows (with maxed out archery) now have 90% base to-hit in the 3rd round of ranged combat, except the ELB which has 100% to-hit. Odds are still slightly lower in 1st and 2nd rounds.
Penalties to ranged weapons used during melee combat have been adjusted. Slings have 80% penalty; xbows have 40% penalty. Bows are unchanged at 60% penalty.
Slings and xbows also have slightly greater penalty to to-hit during 1st and 2nd rounds of ranged (but not 3rd round). "

Not helping, edyit...

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] November 2 2006 7:30 PM EST

we'd need to actually have stats coming from someone with the ability to test
a number of different setups. a +100 ELB, and maybe a AX of similar size.

We would need an opponent with known level of evasion, and another with +100 dbs.

All I'm seeing is that what the changelog says isn't what is happening for me...

Hyrule Castle [Defy] November 2 2006 10:10 PM EST

I have never done any archery... except when i was new to this game, and did some... but to my knowledge...(little that there is) i think that the ranged item, should be not thought of as a must have... to kill people... but more as to weaken them... use your bow to weaken them... and maybe kill their enchanters or weak HP mages, and use your VB or whatever to kill their tanks and that.

AdminNightStrike November 3 2006 4:19 AM EST

I've got a +66 ELB and +80 DB. Does that help?
