Ok, that other thread got convoluted. Perhaps I put too many questions in one thread. Anyway, I wanted to delve into this magic damage spread some more. Assuming Shaolin Monks doesn't change his setup anytime soon, he's a perfect target for testing. So, I'm asking for data collection. Here's what you do:
For MM in ranged, divide each hit by .7 for R1, .8 for R2, and .9 for R3. This will give the actual size of the blow. For melee hits, just the one single attack is fine. I gave an example of how to do this in ranged in my post in the other thread, Misc Questions.
For FB, things are a little different. From what I can tell, the damage is randomized for each minion. It's not one fireball divided by the number of minions. Shaolin has 4 minions, so the fireball would be "cast" 4 times. Each fireball would be divided by 4, then the ranged penalty would take into account. So, to normalize for the original hit for Fireball, observe the following example (numbers are all made up):
FF Familiar hits Min1 [2000], Min2 [3000], Min3 [1000], Min4 [4000].
This is in Round 1. So, this is 4 fireballs, normalized to:
2000 * 4 / .7 = 11428
3000 * 4 / .7 = 17142
1000 * 4 / .7 = 5714
4000 * 4 / .7 = 22857
That's a spread from 5714 to 22857. Again, these numbers are all made up, and are just meant to illustrate that the damage randomizer is calculated for each minion, not once then subdivided. It's not 2000+3000+1000+4000 / .7 -- that would yield invalid results.
CoC follows the same methodology, except that it doesn't fire in ranged, so there are no ranged penalties.
Decay....... yeah, no idea. I guess it's fixed. Who cares.

I'll let you do the nitty gritty :O) I attacked him 3 times with only my mage (each battle only lasted the one round of melee).
My stats: Cone of cold: 1,222,688/1,002,204 (228,267)
Fight1: The Helper [210247], The Protector [164697], The Magician [142402], Kano-san [219714], The Necromancer [177928]
Fight2: The Helper [208501], The Protector [123872], The Magician [173783], Kano-san [175253], The Necromancer [208638]
Fight3: The Helper [164554], The Protector [164281], The Magician [144147], Kano-san [201612], The Necromancer [225454]
I added my numbers to the table. So far, we have a min of about 54%, and a max of about 96%. It looks like my estimate of 50-100 isn't too far off, eh?
I updated the wiki with the minimum range of 50%. Thanks for Cylo for having the perfect testing character for this. If anyone finds different results (such as below 50%), please let me know.

I doubt that this affected the results, but remember that cylo's jig also trains endurance.
Hmm... then really, we should throw out all attacks against the JKF. I didn't realize that. Nuts.
hmm... On second thought, this is an experiment to achieve peak values, not averages. So, the familiar should not matter. Oddly enough, however, the peak value was taken from a hit against the familiar. The lowest value was not, I don't believe.

Only thing I can say is...WoW...
Go NightStrike!!!!
Thanks, Windmaster. And btw, your FB mage can help out if you want to attack Shaolin Monks, as well. I'll even properly discount the hits against Kano-san :)
