Returning to CB. Need help relearning stuff. (in General)

Daz November 20 2006 10:13 PM EST

Hello! I am thinking about returning to Carnage Blender.

I left not too long after CB2 started. I don't really recall how big my character got, but I sold it off and left a few farms around.

Either way, it seems that strategy has changed a fair bit, and I'm wondering what I need to do to try and remember how to play. My character Blood is what I was going to use, but I have noticed that it is really lacking. I sold most of its equipment before. Pretty much the only things worth anything on it are A Katana [74x152] (+20) and a 29k Tattoo of Jigorokano that I can only use 22k of. The strategy is less than good, and the amount of equipment on everything is terrible, but I don't remember what I need to do to change, or whether any of that will even work on modern day CB2. Either way, I wouldn't remember what Strategy I was using on my CB1 stuff, and that got over mil in PR...

Please Help!

Sorry if I am breaking any rules of posting.

When did you leave cb? Maybe you should consider starting with a new character and make full use of the NCB.

The Kat will be an ok mid point for an NCB...the JKF can certainly be put to good use...

4 minions, AS AS GA CoC with a JKF out front should make a good start, though ranger will say MM...or you can do something like what I've got going...with a tank and enchanter and a JKF

No breaking rules here..

Well first off, there is a NCB that can be chosen to use when a new character is created. NCB stands for New Character Bonus. It's like the NUB, the only consist for one character and only gives exp. bonus and no money bonus. This will dramatically help in getting some MPR on a character.. I am a casual player and in about a month and a half i just hit 250k MPR a couple days ago.

As for a strategy, that all depends on what you want to do. There is some new skills that Phantom Link, that allows you to absorb damage that is done to you, depending on the level of the skill. If you want to be a mage team, then you wont need very high NW to be able to run a successful team. The tanks now-a-days need a fairly large NW to be able to inflict enough damage to be able to be a successful character. The way around this shown by BBQ is to use Unarmed Combat. Now I am not an expert on strategies, but I'll give you one that i chose to use when i returned to CB, which was given to me by Ranger.

1st Minion: Trains Ablative Shield and Dispel Magic. You keep Ablative Shield twice as much as your Dispel Magic.

for example, if your AS is trained to 10,000, then your DM would want to be 5,000.. On this minion you'll use a Steel Familiar in most cases, but this can be switched around with another familiar I'm assuming.

2nd Minion: Trains HP, Magic Missile and Evasion. HP is trained to half the Magic Missile, and Evasion to a quarter of the HP..

Example: Magic Missile is trained to 40,000, HP to 20,000 and Evasion to 5,000.

Now thats all i can really help you with. A lot of the other CB community will gladly like to help you. I hope this helps you at least a little :D

All the information you could need. If it isn't, let us know and it will be.

Thanks for the quick responses!

So I create a new character and there is an option to use the new character bonus? How long does it last for, or is there a tradeoff for it?

I had been thinking of creating a new character, and had looked at Rangers character, but it help to know the numbers :P

I was thinking I would use those first two minions, followed by a third with HP and PL, and then a tank. (Or should they be switched around?)

How does ranged combat work, I forget? Is it worth just putting a bow on the enchanters, or do they need dexterity?

Welcome back, Daz! We've missed you. ;)

"So I create a new character and there is an option to use the new character bonus? How long does it last for, or is there a tradeoff for it? "

4 months, you get around a 170% bonus to exp and a 170% increased cost of BA. I would suggest sticking to a two minion EM strategy, which will allow you to save up a lot of money and then you can either convert it to a tank or purchase an even larger character which you can use as a tank. Why a tank? Check some of the recent changelog posts, weapon upgrades now cost a fixed amount, making tanks much stronger than mages at high mpr/score.

Daz November 20 2006 10:50 PM EST

I don't really need to worry about saving up money. I have 1.3 mil, the katana, and enough armour to suffice, albeit not very well.

Thanks Bast! How are you?

Xenko November 20 2006 11:07 PM EST

Not to burst your bubble, but $1.3 million is very little cash. I would recommend that you start with a mage character, unless you are willing to invest some USD.

Just to give some more info about NCB, it you want to buy max BA everyday for all four months, you'd need about $25 million+. Granted, only mostly crazy people do that...

I just started my NCB a week and a bit ago, and I am at about 75k PR with modest BA usage (~900 BA/day, have not purchased any BA). So the NCB is a big help.

Welcome back and good luck.

Daz November 20 2006 11:11 PM EST

Yeah, I know its very little cash, but it should be enough to create a decent tank given that I already have most of the items to be using at a low level.

Daz November 20 2006 11:29 PM EST

Okay, well, I will stick with

"1st Minion: Trains Ablative Shield and Dispel Magic. You keep Ablative Shield twice as much as your Dispel Magic.

2nd Minion: Trains HP, Magic Missile and Evasion. HP is trained to half the Magic Missile, and Evasion to a quarter of the HP."

for the moment.
What should I equip them with? Should I use my Tat of Jig, or try and find a different tattoo? Which should I tattoo?

Kong Ming November 21 2006 1:21 AM EST

I think the JF will do well on the enchanter. Put the mage in front since evasion is now very effective, especially in range.

Miandrital November 21 2006 1:30 AM EST

Early on the Jig might be pretty good, but as you get bigger you will probably want to switch it for a Steel Familiar, since the extra damage will help you a lot.
