Music-editing software? (in Off-topic)

Anybody know of something that allows you to edit songs? Nothing complicated like adjusting panning or volume levels, just cutting out about 30 seconds from the beginning and/or end. I've tried the built in sound recorder, but then I have a gap in the song every minute. Plus the format doesn't always come out how I want it. Any suggestions?

Audacity. Open Source.

Cool, thanks bart :-) This is perfect, I didn't expect to get a reply so soon.

How does it compare to GoldWave?

Besides the $45 and the ability to look at/modify the source code?
