Mixed Martial Arts... (in Off-topic)

GO PATS December 11 2006 7:03 PM EST

Anyone here have any interest in MMA? (Mixed Martial Arts, not... the other MMA) ;) Just wondering some favorite fighters, and what promotions you watch... I'm an MMA freak, I watch every UFC and Pride FC, many K-1 MMA shows, and man K-1 Striking shows but not all... I have around 50 - 75 events on tape/DVD, and I've studied in Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, and Kempo, but I'm not a fighter by trade... Favorite Fighters: Kazushi Sakuraba, Randy Couture, Quinton Jackson (pre-reborn), Genki Sudo, Bas Rutten.

I'm only watch Pride and UFC... I would have to say Fedor Emelianenko is my favorite MMA fighter, the way he destroyed Mark Coleman was insane. His poise in the ring is frightening.

GO PATS December 13 2006 7:22 AM EST

Yeah Fedor is sick... He beat Mark Coleman twice with the same arm bar, actually, which is impressive... Coleman is getting old but he is still a strong guy to try and submit... I can't wait to see CroCop vs. Fedor II...

Shooto December 13 2006 11:16 AM EST

Being strong has nothing to do with pulling off an armbar when the guy gives it up so easily like that. Coleman was no match for Fedor this time. Last time, he was dominating and once again gave Fedor the arm. As for Mirko v Fedor II, you'll have to wait a while. Pride rarely has title fights. I'd like to see Barnett against another top heavy. If he were fresh I think he could fair much better than he did against CC last time he fought him. Also, can't wait for the UFN coming up this week. Its time for dirty Sanchez to get taken down. As a side note, I also study BJJ and muay thai and will be fighting within the next year.

I'd love to see Sanchez lose decisively... I wonder how he'll do after he gets beat finally... He's a hell of a fighter but I hated him on TUF and I don't really enjoy watching his fights... Maybe in a while he'll give GSP a good match... As to the strength thing, what I really meant was experience, but actual arm strength certainly plays a part in escaping an armbar, especially if you have locked hands and can stack up quick, no?

I'm pretty into MMA, my good friend Levi is going UFC, he fights all over the area. I like other show forms too, like multi level moves. Gracie will always be the best :D

I like UFC. It is the only professional fighting sport that is interesting to watch. I can't stand WWE and all those like it.

Hyrule Castle [Defy] December 13 2006 5:24 PM EST

i'm all for foxy boxing :D

GO PATS December 13 2006 8:58 PM EST

They have Womens Mixed Martial Arts, Hyrule... but it's tough to watch two women pounding each other senseless...

Kazushi Sakuraba, 5 - 0 vs. Gracies. ;)
If you ever see him fight Royce, it's an awfully long fight but Sakuraba dominates throughout.

Just for the record, it is almost impossible to talk about this without running into 12 spell check errors... Any names make you have to post a bunch of extra and useless text. Like this text I am writing right now.

One of my favorite up and comers in the UFC is Jon Finch. Most of the guys at AKA are pretty hot right now. Also, I'm a big Tito fan and hope he destroys Chuck soon. Saku was good, but he's pretty washed up. Also, he should have never fought at some of the heavier weights that he did. I think he's a natural 170, maybe 183er and fought closer to the LH a lot.

GO PATS December 14 2006 1:59 PM EST

Yeah, he did fight heavier than maybe he should have, but still, that can only add to his legacy... He beat some awesome fighters in his day... He's just so slick, and hard to catch, that I loved to watch him...

BTW Did you see his fight in K-1 where the ref just decided to take a break while Sakuraba was basically KO'd? I cannot believe the awful officiating in that bout, and I cannot believe that Kaz didn't recognize that he was beat, after the fight... I mean, yeah, he came back to win, but I would have stopped that fight 5 different times before that... and I'm the type who hates stoppages and LOVES Kaz... Sheesh, K-1, you gotta push someone that hard? Everyone saw him as beaten.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp5P_fWSt_U That's the fight I was mentioning... if you think Kaz should have won... post here and I will flame you... j/k ;)

Shooto December 14 2006 2:10 PM EST

He's always had refs wait to stop his fights. He's taken a lot of punishment and sometimes comes back to win. He is a legend, but can't hang with 95% of the fighters today.

GO PATS December 14 2006 2:19 PM EST

I'd give him a little better odds, but I agree, he needs to become a trainer or an announcer or something... He has so much fame he could make it anywhere basically, but I think he should go the route of my other favorite fighter, Randy Couture and just stick around the fight game, but not fight so much... maybe some exhibition matches against another "legend" some time in the future... Kaz vs. Ken Shamrock II would be a great match to watch... if you enjoy watching Ken get smushed and enjoy watching Kaz smush someone.
Kaz vs. Frank Shamrock wouldn't be bad now that I think about it... might be a hell of a matchup.

Shooto December 14 2006 5:33 PM EST

Or he could do just like Randy and compete in submission wrestling matches instead of NHB fighting.

GO PATS December 14 2006 5:47 PM EST

Yeah, I'd definitely like that... ever since the last KO vs. Wanderlei, I don't like to see him get hit... That fight with the name of the fighter that I shall not mention because of the spell check (his last fight) was especially hard to watch, I tried today and couldn't get through it without wincing... Hehheh, same with Randy's last fight against Chuck... I
