A thought on the weapon store (in General)

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] January 24 2007 4:32 PM EST

I just had this thought. Why don't all the weapons just spawn base? I mean, as much as I try to caution new players about upgrading weapons you buy from the store, they seem to still do it, so if they wanted one bigger I do not think that would be a problem.

I see a lot of new players with PR's much larger than their MPR, and yet the weapon they have is a battle axe and crossbow. I think they figure hey with this NUB bonus money, if I can afford to buy it, it cannot hurt me, and we all know it can and does.

Anyway, I understand and apprecaite the non-base equipment in the armor store, but I am of the opinion that the majority of non-ammo based traffic in the weapon store is from new players, so why not make it real easy for them to get a weapon that cannot hurt them, and let them learn about upgrading versus letting them buy weapons much to big for them.

Just a thought :)

P.S. this is not to get rid of non-base weapons, people will still get base weapons, upgrade them, and sell them to the store, people will have alrready upgraded weapons they will sell to the store.

My point is not that there should be no non-base weapons, just whats the point of spawning a x11 +6 Tulwar when the only person who would consider using it, would be someone hurt by the net worth of the item.

Why not file down all the sharp corners on everything too?

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] January 24 2007 4:55 PM EST

We do that for you anyway novice, so it is no bother to do it for the new players :)

Seft, that is not what they figure. They don't do better 'til they know better, and their first instinct is to shop. It's compulsive shopping and the bigger the better. This is also why each minion is training 7 or 8 things. Train! and the more the better.

I don't see changing everything in the store to base as addressing either of those problems -- unless everybody only gets base things so horrendous that the blacksmith won't take them, which will lead to more tulwar forging?

You make valid points and are certainly more on the New Player pulse than I Bast.

I do think we can both agree though, that the point in which a non-interactive new player stops playing is when they run out of money, and there is no faster way to run out of money that to equip a weapon much to large for yourself and then keep on fighting the same old way with your 8 different training slots.

While it may not solve all problems, I do not see what it would hurt, and I do see it solving some of them.

Well, this game is very fond of the "idiot tax". In a way, the shop is just another tax.

I understand what you're trying to do with this. I actually like the idea. But it won't be implemented. Anything that would drop the learning curve down for new players is frowned upon.

However, I don't see why it can't be clearly labeled at the top of the stores that buying larger weapons could have a negative effect on rewards, so that before any purchase is made you should check Help! for more information.

What do you think?

A good suggestion GW and certainly much easier to impliment than my own. With all the new goals for new players, I got the impression that attitudes were changing on new players and wanting them to continue playing. I do see too large weapons as a problem for new players, and anything that can be done to stop that, would be welcome by me.

I remember when I started (over 8 months ago...geez) I applied everything I knew about the RPG experience to this game.

Bigger is always better, more is always better, and always train, train, train, no matter what. Needless to say my strat was horrible...just check out purification to see :D

Good thing I had the sense to read the wiki and actually learn the game, but the kind of depth that is here is not all that easy to access.
