Cracker!! (in Off-topic)

BootyGod February 15 2007 5:45 PM EST

I was hacked today lol. Just kind of wanted a few questions answered:

Is it easier or harder to hack a computer then to just put a keylogger on it?

Do I have to download or click anything to get a hacker?

How do I get rid of it?

he just copy and pasted this. Mean anything to you all?

How the heck can he copy and paste stuff?

Even more importantly, how the hell is he getting control of my mouse?

Any advice?

Start by disconnecting your internet connection, then wipe you drive and reinstall windows. This sounds far far far more simple that what you'll actually have to do, but do not trust that computer ever again without wiping the drive. If someone has access to your computer, they have full control over it.

Oh, forgot to mention.

This is a library computer. I have no personal information on it really. But that also means any cleaning/ swiping is completely out of the question. I did let the librarian know though.

Copy and pasted stuff I don't know:

<41B33A20.29965.9F16D546 at localhost>
<6.2.0.14.0.20041205164630.0316d8e0 at 64.7.153.2>
<41B34DBF.13262.9F637925 at localhost>

Any ideas? Because it's rather annoying.

Ahh, likely some genius who installed it himself...

Just change the passwords you've used from that box, and don't trust any boxes that aren't yours.

Can we start with calling a cracker a cracker and not a hacker?

BootyGod February 15 2007 5:59 PM EST

D'oh.

I forgot you told me that once. Change the title please :)

Hey, I started, now you should answer my questions lol.

Is it easier or harder to hack a computer then to just put a keylogger on it?

If you can install programs that run at startup (like a keylogger) you likely ahve full control over the computer

Do I have to download or click anything to get a hacker?

No, depending the patch level of the windows box your on it could be as easy as a couple of clicks (on the remote side)

How do I get rid of it?

You don't, you could try, but you're pushing a boulder uphill

Not really, just some system info it looks like...

Well, He is obviously getting through from a remote connection. This can be done by a numerous amount of ways. Try a trojan scanner, trendmicro online. This is a great free online scanner.

While this is running, I'd check your firewall or have the librarian check it to see if any new rules have been added.

You should also check your hosts file to see if it has been modified in anyway.

To do this go here:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
Next, Open up Hosts with notepad

It should say this:
"# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost"

You should also check through your system bios to see if he has created another partion where he is storing his info on the computer. In this case, I'd reformat the computer.

There is several other things you can do before wiping the drive., just try google for a few.

sorry for double post but forgot to answer a few of these.

A simple key logger makes life for a hacker allot easier but there is plenty of other means to "hack."

Do I have to download or click anything to get a hacker?

Downloading from certain sites etc. always poses a risk. Always try to download programs from the softwares homepage site. You can't get a hacker from clicking on stuff, however a hacker could get your ip from a link which could lead to them hacking you. This is unlikely but possible. You can also click links that may download something in the background, just don't go to sites you don't belong on and you should be fine.

How do I get rid of it?

Have to identify how he is entering your computer. You could always unhook the internet on the infected computer and spend a couple hours on Google from another computer.

~This is just my opinion, nothing more.
