Desktop Customization (in Off-topic)

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] February 18 2007 4:15 AM EST

Ok, i just downloaded this thing called RKLauncher, and it lets you put the bar, like Macs use for their shortcuts, because i love that feature, and i went to WinCustomize to find the icons to use for them, as they have to be PNG, i even found one for flf for fun and spider solitaire, lol. So far my desktop looks like this: Desktop

But what i was wondering is if anybody else had programs that let you change the theme of your computer, like the start menu and start bar. I had a program called StyleXP, but if i remember correctly, it took up alot of memory when it was running, but if everybody recommends it then i might try it again, but i want some pointers before i go use it again!

So lets hear your guys thoughts on this stuff and what you use, and if you want post your desktops as well!

o yea, and i forgot i downloaded that calendar that i have in the bottom right corner of my desktop. Its called RainLendar. Its pretty cool, still havent fully understodd how it works yet though, but it lets you add little reminders on certain days, appointments and such!

Also, had another question, Does anyone use a program called Samurize? I think this is supposed to be something similar to StyleXP, but i have NO IDEA how to use this program whatsoever.

I use StyleXP and a program that mimics the Windows Vista GUI.

Limewire? Shareaza? and iTunes? Illegally downloading meatloaf? :P

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 18 2007 6:57 AM EST

iTunes software rocks! I've not found anything easier for copying owned CD to MP3, or for burning your own CD from MP3. ;)

I like how on RKLauncher's download button it says it was last updated October 17, 2005. :\

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] February 18 2007 10:55 AM EST

Okay, I downloaded it, but I'm failing at putting new items in there. :\

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] February 18 2007 10:55 AM EST

whats the program you use?

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] February 18 2007 10:56 AM EST

and does styleXP use up alot of memory, or not much to even notice anything?

Sir Leon [Soup Ream] February 18 2007 11:31 AM EST

Try stardocks software. I use their window blinds.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] February 18 2007 11:44 AM EST

I'm not a big fan of any of the Stardocks products. They take a lot of memory and are known for being extremely buggy.

Timberwolf February 18 2007 11:54 AM EST

If you are interested in doing it yourself, you might want to give Samurize a try.

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] February 18 2007 12:37 PM EST

Timber Wolf as asked above, i downloaded Samurize and have no idea how to change anything in it, =/ Any help would be appreciated!

Their site has a forum with a wealth of information.
I would also recommend messing around with one of the included configs to see how they work.
IT can be quite daunting at first, but it's worth it if you like to tinker.

I have that object dock on my computer too, its awesome. I never use the start bar anymore. I've also got it hidden, the start bar hidden, and an awesome animated desktop background, so I have absolutely no need for a screen saver. It really confused my dad a few days ago.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll keep my desktop this way, it eats up wayy too much RAM. But I'll keep it long enough to show all my friends first :-P

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] February 18 2007 3:00 PM EST

Red, mind showing us a screenshot? And where did you get the wallpaper?

RedWolf February 18 2007 4:03 PM EST

This is what my desktop looks like when I'm not doing anything. (The object dock is hidden at the top, the task bar is hidden at the bottom, and all desktop icons are also hidden) My screen saver is obviously turned off since my desktop now IS a screen saver in itself.

Here is the site I got my animated wallpaper from, and here is the actual wallpaper I'm using right now.

My desktop is cooler than yours :-)

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] February 18 2007 8:01 PM EST

yea i went to that website a while ago, but its annoying, they only hav two wallpaper previews pera page, so it takes forever to look at them...

But i dont want an animated desktop cuz it WILL eat up RAM, lol.

Thanks to RKLauncher, this is my new and improved desktop:

Simplicity is a Necessity! Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Nothing was editted out often you'd see less. Did the quicklink bit before, later had a issue clearing all that progress, still went through the folders all the same. FYI, Norton came free in the PC and haven't hit the update shield in about a 10 months. Sure Programs go into 2 pages, have folders full of bookmarks, but hey the only luxury I need is CB and less MS failures.

Size does matter.

It's a bit lacking in eye candy, except maybe the TV tuner :)

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] February 24 2007 11:50 AM EST

cool, two or three monitor hookup?

bartjan February 24 2007 11:55 AM EST

2, one of which is a wide screen 24" one.

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] February 24 2007 12:08 PM EST

awesome, lol. Cant view the picture normal size though: "The image “http://vrielink.net/desktop.png” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors."

bartjan February 24 2007 12:14 PM EST

Your browser is asking strange things from my webserver. Are you sure you are not using any plugins that claim to "speed up" browsing?

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] February 24 2007 12:40 PM EST

just changed one thing in about:config, thats all though
