Following two somewhat extended absences from CB, I am still around.

A surprising amount of other old vets are also still around.
I guess we're a little too stubborn to have been kicked out just yet. ;)

Any hints for a slacking vet who doesn't wanna read a year or two worth of changelogs?

Stats > Items > Overview

Click on item names and it'll take you to the wiki with full details on all items.

Other than that, every time you see something that doesn't quite make sense, ask plenty of dumb questions.

Lots of things will look kind of funky, weapon stats (x1000 weapons are not uncommon), new skills (junction and phantom link aren't so important to understand unless you want to get creative, evasion is a pain in the neck to get used to though). MM throws a whole lot of things out of whack too..

From what I hear, archers with big elbows were popular on CB1... that seems to work well right now.
