Ideas for a NCB contest. (in General)

AdminG Beee March 5 2007 6:51 AM EST

My admin char isn't short of a few items or $'s and I've not run any contests for a while so it's about time to put something back into the game from Admin_Beee.

I've recently started a NCB character and to be honest I'm surprised by how much fun I'm actually having with it now that the pressure to burn BA has gone with the sale of my main character.

Anyway, to the point...

I'd like to sponsor a contest to start at a defined date sometime in the near future that will be open to anyone starting an NCB. Prizes will be good with a combination of rares and $'s up for grabs.
I'm looking for some ideas on how best to run the contest. I don't want to make it a straight MPR race with the person using the most BA winning the prizes as this would eliminate people who can't afford the time or cash to purchase and use all their Battle Allocation. I'd like to keep it simple and along the lines of the winner being the user with the highest MPR/Battles ratio (providing battles is above x) type of thing but would like some input from you on perhaps better or alternative ways to measure a users success.

It's important to keep the rules simple. Capping NW for example would be impossible for me to police so that wouldn't work...

Ideas folks ?

Well you could make a contest using the NCB who will have the highest score with the lowest amount of NW in say 10000 fights (or BA).

Problem here is, the NCB only a few peeps can do this contest at the time.

Why not make it a tournament type goal? Pick a char at certain levels, and the first to be able to beat them wins? You could do it in stages, with a character at certain points.

Because the ability to beat a character depends pretty much on strategy, rather than being the biggest and best, or fastest growing.

For instance: say the NCBs in the contest were all weapon based tank teams; find (or create) a UC character. Not so easy to beat for a tank; and would have to involve some strat thinking. The next stage on would be a different type of character; for instance mage that might be easier to kill; the one after that a weapon based tank.

There would be an element of racing involved, but lots of need for strategy; unless your initial character was a good all rounder.

You can get an NCB from someone who hasn't used his or her latest, if you're in the middle of one and want to take a break for Beee's (dare I say it?) tourney.

Unfortunately people who are already NW rich will be able to gain a huge advantage in this.
You could say that transfers to the character aren't allowed but then you have the problem that it is impossible to prove that someone transferred between their own characters.
Unless someone builds up some new tourney code I really can't see an way we can get one to work well.

Make it a 'no armors allowed' NCB - at very least they have to stay within the confines of the WA - and allow a certain # of battles per day. This way you are seeing who reaches the highest amount of MPR on those battles without the help of special armors. It is easy to monitor who has been fighting more than their share - perhaps even make the limit a total # of battles, to make it even easier on yourself. Like this:

G_Beee's NCB Tournament!

Rules:

1. You may only fight up to 160x4, or 640 battles per day. This means at the end of your NCB, you may have no more than 79,360 battles Challenged on your character.

2. No armor allowed. Weapons may be used, but be careful of your Allowance!

3. No minion buying. When you begin this contest, you may state the # of minions you will be using, and at the end you must have that same number or be disqualified.

Prizes: I will seize possession of everything NS and Freed have and give it to you.

Just kidding on the prizes part (teehee) but you get the idea. You could also hold open a suggestions thread to smooth it out a little and find any little bugs before you actually start.

=)

Controlling amount of battles per day and equipment used means someone has to police this, which means it's also open to abuse. Too difficult to manage without keeping a constant and daily eye on the situation - too difficult to be sure no-one gets "creative" when a contest admin isn't looking.

Controlling the purchase of minion buying is a good idea and can be policed if all entrants make a declaration at the start.

Q: To RoE or not to RoE ? Not everyone has one or can afford to buy one, however many people won't want to commit to a NCB char if they're not allowed to use one...

I would suggest that you make it a contest to a certain MPR, where the one who got there with lowest 'challenges' total wins the competition.

If you want interaction you would make the calculation take into account other characters attacks, looking for the best battles won/total battles ratio. That would foster a sort of clan type mentality where you are not only trying to get a good win/loss ratio but you are also trying to lower the leaders ratio. This would be subject to abuse as outsiders would affect the results, but if you felt the community is an honorable one and made some guidelines known it could work.

Beat a selection of 5 large MPR (500k ) chars, with the fewest number of battles fought.

miteke [Superheros] March 5 2007 12:07 PM EST

I like your idea novice, though I would suggest something down in the 100 PR range or less so that the contest could finish quicker.

QBOddBird March 5 2007 3:58 PM EST

I especially like novice's idea - select a few certain 'characters to beat' with the lowest number of fights.

Beee, you could police the number of fights instead of by day simply as a total.

And I'm assuming this contest would end after 4 months when the NCB ran out? Or after a shorter duration?

"Prizes: I will seize possession of everything NS and Freed have and give it to you."

Note to self.... transfer everything to Miandrital.....

Could NUB users join by any chance?
And why doesn't the spell checker knows the word NUB?

kevinLeong March 6 2007 2:37 AM EST

This would be a one day event but...

I'd make a March Madness for CB. Allow people to register and sort them by MPR. Pair people up. Let them fight it out for a day (NO changing of strategies, they can fight other people but only battles between each other will count in deciding the victor). Person who wins the most after that one day will move on to the next round.

Rules:
MPR must be between 50k - 100k
PR may NOT exceed 200k
NO saving up xp previous to the week. All xp trained must have been gained DURING that day.
NO changing strategies. If you're strategy sucks compared to the person you're fighting then tough luck. Thats the way it goes...
Draws do not count as points for either side.

Depending on the number of entries, this will probably go at least a week. I don't know if that is the time period you had in mind.

I don't know about prizes, you can decide on that, as well as fiddle with the numbers. When I was in high school my friends and I liked to do tourneys for bands, foods, etc. (IE. Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. Gun & Roses, victor plays winner of The Beatles vs. Metallica, etc).

Just an idea. I don't know if someone suggested it already, I didn't really read through all the replies.

How about some clan on clan action, everyone chooses two (or more) Captains that choose out of the selection of ncbers out there. They then make a clan and the clans start going at it. The clan with the most clan points after say 4 months wins the competition. Then it gets broke down into, best Strategy overall, most wins, most CP's, so on and so forth. Ideas, flames, please don't keep them bottled up inside... I want to hear what you guys think about it.
