Russian (auction) Roulette II (in Contests)

AdminG Beee March 7 2007 8:34 AM EST

It's time for another game of Russian Roulette, CB auction style :)

I've put a Tulwar up for auction (Sorry GL) and now you have to decide whether you want to bid on it or not. Winner of the contest (not the winner of the auction) gets $200k + $93,541 from my admin char

Rules and how this works:
I've picked a value for this item randomly and passed the info to Bart. The person who either bids the exact value or the closest value below the figure I've CM'd Bart will win their cash back and $293,541 from my admin char. The person who is shown to bid one increment above my value at the end of the auction will lose their bid and the cash will be held on my admin char for future contests. The loser has effectively committed CB auction suicide :)
Of course if more than one person bids above my number and actually wins the auction I'll refund their cash.
Remember, there's only one bullet in the gun so if you are the person who fires the gun and gets the bullet then you must pay the same you've bid as a penalty.

Remember folks - don't gamble what you can't afford to lose.

You called Mr B?

kevinLeong March 7 2007 3:51 PM EST

Out of curiosity, is there any range from which you will choose the number?

TheHatchetman March 7 2007 4:14 PM EST

between $1 and $10,000,000.

AdminG Beee March 7 2007 6:43 PM EST

I guess it's fair to say that the range is between $1 and $500k because I don't want to price anyone out of the bidding. Also, the main idea is to give prizes away and not hurt people who commit suicide by making the penalty inhibitive.

If this type of contest proves popular I'll increase the prizes.

Deadline?

AdminG Beee March 7 2007 6:46 PM EST

Uhm, check the auction :p

Ends in 13:37:18

What if we bid twice in a row, once below the amount and once above? Do we win and lose at the same time, or does somebody else win/lose?

AdminG Beee March 7 2007 6:50 PM EST

Are you even able to do that, and does it show as two bids Tyriel ?

Let's just say that if you can - you shouldn't because that would be silly :)

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] March 7 2007 6:58 PM EST

if someone makes an ebay style bid around 300k and the next highest bid is 235k, then someone can keep bidding the next highest bid until it hits 301k

Mikel [Bring it] March 8 2007 7:51 AM EST

what happens if CB comes along, bids and wins......

bartjan March 8 2007 8:06 AM EST

Exactly the same thing that happens when you travel back in time and you meet yourself.

AdminG Beee March 8 2007 9:14 AM EST

The auction has finished and we have a winner.

is Zoglog because his guess was closest to the random value of $101k that I'd selected at the start of the competition.
G Beee (Admin_Beee) 164.129.1.38 Zoglog (Elven_Kings) $293541 -- see /bboard..00230E 9:08 AM EST

Tyriel was the unlucky one and he "bit the auction bullet" .
Please send $109,283 to my Admin char as your penalty.

KevinLeong won the auction and will have his final bid of $242,493 returned in full.
Please remember to send me back the Tulwar ;)

Hope you all enjoyed the game. It seems like people are enjoying the contest so I'll do it another with better prizes soon...
