Any Suggestions? (in Off-topic)

About a month and a half back, I needed a ride to get to a party. Having no vehicle, I called a friend of mine. He said no problem, *after* I offered him gas money... Turns out, h didn't even want the gas money, he wanted to rent a game from Blockbuster. Doesn't mater to me where the money goes, I just wanted a ride to the party. He doesn't have an account with Blockbuster, so I have to rent it using my card... Fine, just return it on time and no problems, eh? Now, today, I get a letter in the mail:

"Blockbuster records show there is a balance outstanding from your last rental. They understand you may have overlooked this amount and have asked we contact you concerning the $47.66 that is shown past due on your account"

I don't have $47.66 to pay the damn thing off, and I get the sneaking suspicion he is going to duck and dodge me the whole way through... So, now what?

Figured I'd add, that I find it to be horse crap that any time i do a favor for any of my friends, there are no strings attached... Where I used to live, this went both ways. Around here, it seems "friends" bypass the strings, and attach steel cable...

You wants me to break his kneecaps, boss?

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] March 8 2007 6:41 PM EST

Sorry but t's your own fault in my opinion.
I'd never let anyone else rent something on my blockbuster card or library card or any other rental card.
If you agree to let somebody use an item which can affect your cash balance while you have no real way of monitoring it then you do so at your own risk.
By all means ask him for it back but if he does duck and dive it then my advice is to take it as a lesson learnt and remove him from your list of 'friends'.

Sell some CB =D

TheHatchetman March 8 2007 10:06 PM EST

i thought about the selling CB cash idea, but I'd feel like a complete tool selling CB cash while I was in debt, and in order to cover both debts (UBL and BB) I'd have to sell out just about everything...

Zoglog, I couldn't agree more. It is *my* fault. But thats what I get for helping friends, eh?

And SC, I was thinking along the lines of your idea.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] March 8 2007 10:40 PM EST

I'm not saying you are at fault as such, just that naivity let you down.
You just need to come around to the idea that there literally is nobody in this world you can completely trust :)

apperantly what I said was misunderstood as sarcasm... I was actually serious. I screwed up...

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] March 8 2007 11:08 PM EST

I knew it was you being serious and yeah you screwed up but the blame is still mostly on the 'friend' for getting you such a bill.

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] March 8 2007 11:59 PM EST

Just tell the blockheads it was stolen by ........!Or borrow a full honey wagon and1)back it into his cars window 2)empty...Or dead fish under the front seat...Or Spam the Gay personals with his name etc.....Or If he really does duck you nail the Bill to his Door !.....Or write a glowing personal tribute to Bin Laden and post Net wide in his name!..... Or ya really want more ??

First suggestion: Redefine "friend".

What about 'No Late Fees'?
