Muon did a fine job with the new chat client, and went well above my original requests, adding every new feature I asked for. Thanks, muon!
For all that want to benefit from a chat client that's actually usable, head on over to cbstuff.nl where Shade has been generous enough to host it. (And no, you don't have to pay a million to muon to download it, although I'm sure he wouldn't mind....)
Hows this puppy supposed to roll ? You have to be a programmer to use this thing ?Is it for our chat on the bottom ?
Download it and run it like you would any java program:
c:\> java ChatClient
At that point, you'll get a usage note that explains what parameters need to be supplied. Put that in a shortcut somewhere, and now you've got a CB chat app that you can run from your desktop. You can also place that in a batch file and do the same thing. If you don't have any experience with creating shortcuts, I can help you in more detail.
Er, I really don't deserve this.
A big thanks to NightStrike, whose contest inspired me to learn a bit about how the CarnageBlender chat client works ;-)
If anybody wants to add a couple of missing features (unix-style up/down arrow history, cleaner interface, previous-text font updating (without munging the colours ;-), and a fix for the scrollbars that I could never get autoscrolling perfectly, and porting it back to a java applet (might require some fancy footwork with the font selection process)), I will split this reward with them 50/50 :-)
Cheers,
muon.
