Xbox 360 Question (in Off-topic)

Purple Cobra April 7 2007 3:39 PM EDT

Ok. I'm looking forward to buying a spanking new Xbox 360. However, I don't own an Xbox.

The Xbox 360 has backwords compatability with certain games. What I want to do is not only experience the 360 games, but also the old Xbox games that I don't own. Games like Halo 2 and such. However, I don't want to purchase another Xbox to play those games.

Now here's my question. Can you play current gen Xobx games on the 360 and save as well? I don't want to buy an Xbox game and not be able to save my game on the 360!

So, anybody got an answer?

I like the defense.
"Well if you own the old games you should therefore own an original Xbox"
Talk about idiots, so many people have to sell their old console to fund the new one, as I did selling my PS1 to finance my PS2 some years back. It is also obvious that a lot of new owners may want to play the older games which are only available to Xbox.

another reason why PS is better, it plays the old games on the new system.

It's pretty pointless to sell your old system as most stores (EBGames and Gamestop) will give you less than $25. Just wait a week or so to gather up $25 bucks so you have enough and keep your old system.

Well I know for a fact that if I had an Xbox to trade in that I'd receive at least around ᆪ30 for it which equates to roughly $60.
My slimline PS2 sold for about ᆪ50 nearly a year ago before the added amount for games and accessories when I needed to raise cash to buy my festival tickets. That is $100.

wow, if I could have sold my xbox for 60$ I would have done so, but here in Texas, US, you'd get roughly $25 dollars ... but wait theres more!!!! an added 10% if you are making the trade-in towards a next gen console! ... $27.50 ... Either way, I think you get ripped off. You buy a console from them, even used, for 90$, you sell it back a month later for less than 30% of what they sell it back to someone else for, and games?

As far as games goes, they rip you off even harder. They've offered me 3 dollars for some of my ps2 games that'd you'd have to pay $20 bucks to buy new. I think you'd be better off trying to sell them to friends at school then to trade them all in to a store.

It's really up to you and like I said, if you are absolutely 'dying' to get a 360 sell console and all your games, but you are probably going to regret it. Another thing to keep in mind that the new 'Elite' bundle is coming out for $575 USD that's going to have a 120GB harddrive. Prices on ebay may go down for the Premium system and the 20 gig harddrives. So you may be able to pick a core system up for less than $300, and the harddrive for less than $100 if you can find it used.

I play Halo (1) and (2) on my 360. Some games haven't been converted yet (like my Sims), but they are working on those.

There is few ways to get the updates:
1. Join X-Box Live and get them as you need them.
2. Go to the 360 Site and order the cd that has the updates.
3. You could download them to your PC and burn them onto a CD.

All in all it's a much better system to me for the money vs the PS3 and they have games, I can buy a used PS3 off of a friend of mine because he hates the lack of games for it, but he won't sell me his 360.

If you are using Live, you will need to be logged in to your account, put the old game in and wait. You don't have to go get a download prior to that to make the game work.

Come on, PS3 have a similar number of release titles that the 360 had. There was the same argument about PS2 and Xbox and if the Xbox users are going to use the fact that one has been on the market much longer then I damn well am too.

Mikel [Bring it] April 7 2007 7:19 PM EDT

Does ps3 have their own version of Live?

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] April 7 2007 7:27 PM EDT

PS3 is online compatible and its use is free IIRC.
Connection is likely to be exactly that of the PS2 in that you connect to the game servers through the game itself and everything runs perfectly smoothly.

Everyone complains like hell about the lack of games for the PS3... It just launched friggin 6 months ago. It was the same exact way for the 360. There were a few good games, nothing special, just last gen ports like Madden 06 (which is pretty watered down, hell, even 07 is still watered down, there isn't even a fantasy draft in the franchise mode), Burnout Revenge (which was basically a straight port with nothing new as far as i know) and other crap. The first 'good' game I got for the 360 was Gears of War and that was released November of 06. That's about a year after the 360's
inital debut... I know there was Kameo which launched with the 360, and GRAW (hate the first one love the 2nd one), and Oblivion, but they weren't anything really ground breaking to me.
If you can't wait for the ps3 to release good games, you shouldn't have gotten one in the first place and you should stop comparing a console that's been out for a year to one thats been out for 6 months. It's a big difference.

[RX3]Cotillion April 7 2007 8:09 PM EDT

Uh edit on the comparing The ps3 which has been out for 6 months to the xbox 360 thats been out for 1 year... should have been 1 and a 1/2 years. :)

XBOX 360 IS THE BEST EVER!! WOOO!!

It plays most popular regular xbox games, and their updating for others.

Get it, you won't regret it..

and then play online with me on Madden 07, I need a challenge!

Mikel [Bring it] April 7 2007 8:47 PM EDT

Precisely, which is why I don't buy new consoles until they've been out for a while and I'm satisfied with their game selection. I might buy a PS3, if I do, it will be after the new year, unless I find one cheap. I got my 360 after Oblivion came out, which I played the heck out of on the regular x-box and wasn't disappointed with it on the 360. Madden was fine, If you want the super version, just get it on the PC and you can get all of the free agent updates as well. F-Dark Zero is a good game, my kid still plays that game.
