Being hacked... Is entertaining?? (in Off-topic)

(Bartjan, use your imagination. Take everytime I said hack and replace with crack :)

Okay, so it's like the fifth time I been hacked. But today, really wasn't up to it. So I simply brought up a new page (once I realized hacker was active, via a slur of non-pg words ) I simply said, "Look, had a bad day. Mind messing with my world.. like... later?"

Got a "Okay dude. Cool." in return. So... interested sparked. A -nice- hacker? So I asked how old he was. I was kindly told she was a she. I'm laughing my head off at this point. I ask again how old -she- is. The answer is 15.

So, I'm having a blast. Then I find out, -surprise- her dad is coming home and she has to get off or he will "kill her". No more issues since then.

Umm... weird much?

Weird that you are being hacked, weird that it's a girl, or weird that a girl is giving you some attention? No, Kinda, Yeah.

By "being hacked" ... what do you mean? You ran a program that you received via email, or downloaded via a P2P network, and now random people can access your computer at will?

Because it sounds like a trojan horse, or Remote Administration Program... I assume you don't use a *nix variant, so that pretty much limits the options down to 2 - simple RAP or simple worm. Most, likely the first, but since she obviously knows when you're online, I'd imagine that you are part of a botnet now...

A 15 year old female botherder...
Well, aside from the female bit, not that strange. Next time you talk to her (if at all) ask her what her nick/handle is.

Also, running a portscan on your computer's IP address will show any open ports on your system (ports are endpoints of communication, and identifying the port number that the attacker is using is a big step in the direction of identifying that program used; for example, 31337 is subseven, 12345 is netbus, etc).

Finally, running a firewall helps!
But, yeah, these things can be entertaining once in a while, but remember that a 15 year old girl using programs that she probably didn't write does not, in all likelyhood, know the full ramifications of anything she does on a system. Which means that if you have sensitive data on the system, you may want to back it up and put it somewhere safe.

Cheers,
muon.

That's the weirdness. None of that is possible on these computers. Library computers. Auto cleared after being shutdown.
