New Player Chat Request. (in General)

Well, I remember many months ago I asked for new player and carnage chats to be reversed, more or less forcing vets to take up residence in carnage. But... I must say... I would like to see a trial where it went back to the old way of doing things.

I'm prideful, but here I think a mistake was made, even if I originally stood by so strongly my assertion that vets should stay out of new players because it intimidated them. Now, I think the game seems boring to new players. No one to communicate with. Or, at least, not as many people as would be liked.

So, I would like to see a temporary trial where players are encouraged to move back to new players. The first room a player should come to should represent the game. The community. As many vets have said, what keeps them coming back is the community. So, let's expose them to it in the beginning.

If going back to vets in new players doesn't help, then you can always do what was done last time, reseting favorite room to carnage and letting new player become a graveyard. As long as ops are up to their normal standards, and keeps vets in new players sane when new players -are- trying to get involved.

So, that's my two cents. I admit I was probably wrong in this case. Not only have I been thinking about it recently, but other players have been too. So.... yah.

Also, this could all be solved by allowing people to be in more than one room at once.

Thanks for your time.

First of all, I just want to say "the old way of doing things" is exactly how it is now (at least from my understanding. I haven't been around since 2002 like some have). When Jon moved all the vets into carnage, it was an attempt of "going back to the old way of doing things."

But yes, I agree with you, if all you have to talk to are other newbs, the game can seem kinda dumb. They never get to see any of the cool people. The community is the ONLY reason I stay here. I never fight anymore... but I can't leave, since this is one of the only places I can kill time :-P

This is what I have been saying before the change was made. If there wasn't a fun chat for me when I joined, I would have left. I see no real reason besides spam for pushing the vets into carnage. The spam problem can be solved with better op standards individually, or by some other ways I can think of, like having a third chat in NP solely for questions. I.E. Regular chat on the left, Question Box in the middle, and PM box on the right. I don't think this is nessecary, as I think the old NP was perfectly fine with some responsible people willing to help. I really do think NP should be the way it was before the herding of vets to carnage. As Dragon said, the first thing a New Player sees should represent what is best about the game, and I say that is the community, most definately.

I'm not sure how much credibility my opinion counts on this, but I do agree that the two rooms should be merged.
