what if the winning word isn't said by one of the three jockeys?

The Admin posting at the end of each day will state what would've been the correct word, and nobody will move forward. Contest will proceed as usual, there'll just be no progress that day. ^_^

What does the winning jockey get?

The winning jockey and those who bet on his horse are all in the same boat - they receive a split of 60% of the entire pot. The jockey is simply the one they make suggestions to, who then decides which word to guess to try and get ahead.

However, for taking this extra pressure, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place jockeys may possibly receive a *small* bonus to their prize. =)

And before it is even asked, NO the pot will not be entirely composed of the fees paid by contestants - that's just to get you in the contest. There will be a minimum prize amount. You just don't get to know what it is yet ;)

I cannot guarantee that I will be on every day (in fact it is very likely that I won't be ;-) so I will be a spectator. Can I help my jockey by CMing him/her some words that I think might be the partner word? Or is that against the rules?

Indeed! Spectators are encouraged to help out their jockeys by suggesting words that they believe could be the possible answer. ^_^
