A new forum -- "Services"

This is a place for users to post services that they offer that last a relatively long time. Merge the forging forum into this. Open this to any service that people choose to provide that extends over a period much longer than a single sale of a character or item that is appropriate for FS/WTB. Services may include banking, forging, tattoo leveling, clan fighting (a service where you employ someone to fight a certain clan), etc.

The rationale is that the FS/WTB forum is geared towards single events -- a one time transaction or event. Services are innantely longer term, stretching over a lengthy period of time. A forger looks for work that will fill his queue for a long time. One doesn't generally switch between, for instance, a forging clan and a fighting clan, several times a week. If you're a forger, you're a forger. If you're a banker, you're a banker. If you offer any service, it is implied in the nature of offering a service that you intend to do this over and over again.

seconded! =)

Umm... I second the second.

as said in chat, very simple solution

[Nkki]WildEagle [SNB Forging Services] May 30 2007 7:23 PM EDT

yep, would be a great thing imo :)

Talion May 30 2007 9:30 PM EDT

I just hope you don't get ridiculed this time NS.

SundariZelia [The Knighthood] May 30 2007 9:39 PM EDT

Well this makes at least 7 people he won't be ridiculed by. This is a very good idea.

[RX3]Cotillion May 30 2007 9:41 PM EDT

8 peoples.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] May 30 2007 9:49 PM EDT

There is absolutely no reason this could not be implemented. Apart from the amount of work required to implement the changes suggested by NS. I, of course, have no idea how much time it would take.

But it's the logical choice IMO.

QBsutekh137 May 30 2007 10:15 PM EDT

Sounds good to me... Should the "Services" forum also be an implicit "public record" style of forum? I.e., while we are at it, do away with the need to set up things in one forum, and confirm them in another?

As a long-term forger, this idea makes a great deal of sense to me.

[RX3]Cotillion May 30 2007 10:32 PM EDT

Ash, I think the only thing they need to do is rename the thread and post the new rules.

I think that's the whole point Sut, to keep it all together.

QBsutekh137 May 30 2007 10:42 PM EDT

I wasn't in chat, so I wouldn't know "the whole point", Red. *smile*

Unappreciated Misnomer May 30 2007 10:43 PM EDT

this sounds logical, but why would i want another forum in addition to FS/WTB or Forging Services.....services being the main word :P or Public Records...

do we really need a 4th forum that sums up those 3?

SaintMichael May 30 2007 10:55 PM EDT

As he said, combine them into services.

QBsutekh137 May 31 2007 12:04 AM EDT

Right...

Concisely put (not that NS's description was lacking) a forum for the following:

-- Any non battle-related transaction between two players.
-- Anything involving transfers and services rendered.
-- Anything involving public record of said transactions and words exchanged, monitored and enforced by admins/subadmins.

So, what forums meet these descriptions?

-- FS/WTB
-- Forging
-- Public Record

The only downside (just thought of it) that I can see is that forums have the ability to be turned off in settings. There are probably folks who do not want to see any Forging threads, but DO want to see FS/WTB (and vice versa). Without making a sub-type for "Services" (thereby defeating the simplicity of such an endeavor), how would that be controlled?

Anyone out there who turns off Forging (but keeps on FS/WTB) or turns off FS/WTB (but keeps on Forging)...care to weigh in? Could you live without the distinction?

I cannot think of any other downside other than the logical segmentation that separate forums bring to the table...

Renamed FS to Services. Loans are fair game there.

SBW May 31 2007 12:32 AM EDT

Jon, dont forget to change it on the side bar too.. under Forums. :)

Talion May 31 2007 8:25 AM EDT

Well, I need to say that... I was wrong.

I never thought this would actually happen. Thanks Jon.

This allows me to keep Pixel Sage's loans running.

Cheers!
