merging (in General)

i'm not sure if this has been put forward before or if people will like it or not but what amount being able to put two items into say the blacksmith for 1 month and u get one piece back.

eg displacement boots + Elven boots -> blacksmith = Night Elf boots

these new elf boots then have a combination of the two boots effects

eg Base AC of 5, 1% dx, skills and -PTH effect for every plus.

these can only be forged via blacksmith and would cost 2(EB + DB)

eg for a plus 30 it would cost approx

2[(EB+30 $8,733,544) + ( DB+30 $783,045)] = 19,033,178

just an idea for personalised new armour sets. and having an inbetween AC and increase cost sort of keeps the new pieces within balance. This is only an idea and welcome to discussion and i know if it does ever happen it will need a fair bit of work.

I do not like this idea.

The reason why I hope that this isn't implemented is that it takes away the Scissor Paper Rock effect to some extent: with it, a character could be both a scissor and a rock with investment of a bit of USD.

The only reason non-USD spenders are even remotely viable now is because people have a "hard choice" no matter how much money they spend.

"Should I spend all my money on upgrading and using a MageSeeker? But if I do, all the tank teams out there will train base MM on their support minions, and get 4 `free' hits on me! Should I use an elven longbow? But if I do that, then an AoI'd mage team will have the same 4 free hits on me!"

And so on. This choice is a good thing, because it means that you have to choose to be a Rock, or a pair of Scissors, or a sheet of Paper. Sure, with some strat fiddling you can get your rock fairly scissor shaped (Ranger, for example, trains a large EC and AMF - but the EC is still wasted against pure mage teams).

But this modification would be the death of all non-usd spenders, I think.

Cheers,
muon

What muon said. It would wreck it and there would be no choice which sucks.

i should think this is a great idea ;) but needs modification... such as if i take A Fluted Steel Cuirass and combine it with a mithril sheild it could become a heavy plate armor or something... let these items not spawn in auctions but instead need to be created by combining other pieces of items... thus we can include items that are rarely used into our daily usuage :) i wonder what everyone thinks of that...

lostling June 6 2007 5:24 AM EDT

quotes bast "<Bast> You should give people enough to actually comment on, then."

guess i should :)
jon could make a few combinations( not necessarily all) to include useless items like cesti, tower shields and such

the combined items would only take 1 slot but the stats on the item would be different and maybe a un upgradable effect... such as 3% endurance or something but maybe with 5% life reduction :)

Ancient Anubis June 6 2007 6:31 AM EDT

i still think the hard choice is in there i mean people who have a +100 dbs may not want to give that up when to get to the same effect the cost would be massive. and when u think about it those that spend massive amounts of us aren't a majority not to mention they have a big advantage currently helll they have dbs up over 150+, massive weapons worth 100mil plus. and the fact is it would help even it out in some instances with a normal person ,using previous merge example, being able to get to level 25 comfortably and someone who has US paying power maybe only going to maybe 5-10 levels higher which is a lot less difference in benefits then someone with say a 50db and someone with a 150dbs.

Ancient Anubis June 6 2007 6:32 AM EDT

good idea with the merging less used items from like stores lostling.

Flamey June 6 2007 6:33 AM EDT

Read above, it takes out all the choice in the game if you can combine items.

TrueDevil [AAA] June 6 2007 7:14 AM EDT

Actually wouldn't it give more options for people to choose ? but here's the catch. For example, as the above example , the new boots will have half the effect , 1 % dx, skills, and - PTH every 2 points instead of the suggested every point (because that would be seriously overpowered). The NW stays the same. It might not be the best idea for everybody, but people might actually use it.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] June 6 2007 7:30 AM EDT

Exactly, as long as the downsides balance the items then I don't see how choice is taken away from the game and this could also create another cash sink for our already overinflated economy.
I'm not saying I think it should be brought into the game but I felt the need to defend the choice aspect
Although your example is a pretty bad one unless it is supposed to be for Evasion mages, Night Elves have always been keen archers so I would have thought they'd be more suited to those (although their ability to be unseen during darkness fits the Evasion minion lol).

make the new items created base :)
