An open letter to the admins... (in Public Record)

Clairebear June 5 2007 10:00 AM EDT

Before I say anything, I will openly admit that I am the person "Pinecliff" that was recently banned and I have opened a new account for the sole purpose of this thread. Other than the basics to get to this spot, I did not do any fighting or buying or whatnot to change the game in anyones favor. I understand and expect that this account get banned as what you would call a "multi" which is fine because i used my girlfriend's email.

I have recently been banned for being a "multi" of a player named billbrasky200. At least thats what the error message read. In talking to other players in the chat window that was accidentally left open after the ban, the admins aparently saw that I had a same IP address as this person and then was banned, an IP address shared by over 1000 people on the military base I work on. I have tried contacting multiple admins about the situation and have been blown off. In fact they cannot even show me this account that I am aparently a "multi" of. I could not find the exact rule but in the FAQs it says:

"The community polices "multis" fairly diligently. IP sharing is the main evidence in such cases, but is not in an of itself proof of guilt. If you share an IP with other players, you should avoid transfers (particularly one-sided ones) to each other to avoid the appearance of evil."

I have never had a transaction with anyone with that name or anyone with the same IP address for that matter.

I have also become a supporter. I was one on CB1 and decided it was just as fun, so I became one again. Am I going to get this $$ back? I also bought 1.9 mil of CB$$ for $15...am I getting that money back? I never did anything against CB except maybe rub an admin the wrong way who decided to find someone with the same IP as me and ban me (merely my speculation but the only reason I can possibly come up with). I am writing this so that MAYBE one of the admins who actually care about the players in this game (could be all of them, not picking on any specifically) can get in contact with me to figure out this matter. I spent over a month building up this character only to have it taken away and now i am afraid to start again for the same thing to happen. My email is ismellpinecliff@yahoo.com (I cannot use my military email address outside government use). Please understand my frustrations and help me in this matter. Thank you.

No idea how this will end up. No idea what happened behind the scenes either. But props for the civil post, though.

The best con men always sound most convincing Ash. This account has also now been banned.

For the record, that makes TWELVE !

OUCH!

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 5 2007 10:25 AM EDT

Of course, you are right, G Beee. Eh, it's easy to be naive about people's intentions when you don't see their faces.

Oh, well. That's life. 12 is more than breaking the rules.

G Beee = smarty pants = my daddy = :)

SaintMichael June 8 2007 10:11 AM EDT

I take it he wasn't really a supporter then, Beee?

AdminG Beee June 8 2007 10:20 AM EDT

After a previous discussion with Jon and Bart we had decided to leave MH9TM24 as active because there was an outside chance that despite sharing IP he may have just been a friend or co-worker.

IP alone is generally not enough to ban someone as we tend to look for various other triggers in order to ensure we don't make a mistake.

The danger of giving someone the benefit of the doubt (which we always do) is that the odd cheat invariably slips through the net...
