Hmm... surroundings! (in General)

BootyGod June 12 2007 1:39 PM EDT

Well, I've been thinking of an idea like for awhile. At first I kept thinking arenas.... but I realized that it would be silly. It didn't matter how I thought of it, it would have ended up neutralizing itself... so bah with it.

But! I didn't let that get me down. I was determined to bring CB another ridiculous idea =D

So, I give you... environments!

So, I had a bunch of ideas for them. But... it was a difficult choice determining how I wanted to voice this to you all.

So... if you don't like this, let me know, and I'll give you all a different version.

Basically, this would be a whole new aspect to the game, but would apply mostly to defending yourself. I thought long and hard about what would be "too" powerful. Like arena's casting an inherent AMF or EC. I think this could too much of an impact on the game, and make finding opponents -too- difficult.

As with all portions of the game, I wanted to try and maintain balance. So, I'll just give you the idea now.

A seperate tab under places. Would be called Environment or whatever you wish. You go there, and then you would have a few choices. Firstly, your arena would earn experience for successful defenses (that's right, another discouraging factor against double taps.) And what I wanted to do was make sure that USD would not be a over riding factor. Someone shouldn't be able to become immortal because they can pump too much cash into their environment.

SO, you would go to your environment, and then spend base amount of cash on what you wanted. Here are some examples of what you could get.

Terrain:
Ice
Sand
Turf
Brick

Each with relatively easy to understand properties. Mages and heavily dexterity based tanks would probably want Ice and Sand, hopefully making it benefit them, but hurt the enemy a bit. Of course, this could backfire. If the enemy happened to be even better at your chosen area, they could get tiny bonuses to stats against you.

Then, you could go farther.

You'd buy what kind of surrounding you want. Like, if you're one minion, you'd want a small environment, with a large rocks. This would give you tiny bonuses to DX, and maybe small evasion in ranged rounds, or decreased DX to enemy archers.

Basically, you get the idea. Small augments to your team, during defense, and would add a new aspect to who's on your fight list.

OH! And I forgot to say. How the upgrade system would work in my mind. You -buy- the stuff to use, but instead of spending
money to upgrade the stuff, you spend the exp it earns. Kind of a new take on it, but I like it. More clan people (because you want to get farmed, see? You want to increase the people trying to fight you, to increase the amount of people losing to your team and giving stuff to your environment). Also, maybe a loss should give it a tiny amount of exp.

Well.. you all let me know. I like this idea, and it would be fun to tinker with something like this. If you have any questions or advice, feel free. But I would like to avoid you just saying the idea bites.

Thanks for taking your time :)

The idea is really good! Just very hard to balance. But I have another idea on how to get those surroundings.

Spending clan points! Every time a clan member wins the clan get a certain amount of arena points that could be used to upgrade the clans arena. Clan points would either go to take out in form of cash or building up the clans arena.

Well if you code it they will come. I don't know anything about programing but Jon might go for anything if you do the humping !

My coding expertise goes as far as /hello, but I would think that this would complicate CB too much. Maybe have two terrains.. I don't know, just makes me think of a 30 year old dude beating down a bunch of elementary students in four-square.

This is actually an outstanding idea!
I like it very, very, very much.

It gives us something more to think/talk about. Gives us choice too, which is as I stated numerous times before, the best a change can bring.

Props for fleshing it out, too, wish I could give more meaningful insight, but inspiration is not coming :)

make the arena avaible to everyone... so no $ is needed... make sure it only gains EXP from defending... not from you attacking(in theory you enter someone elses arena to fight)

eg ice
slippery so there is a dx penalty
cold so there is a CoC bonus
cold so there is a FB penalty
cold so minions with high AC loses some

just an idea ;)

lostling June 12 2007 3:14 PM EDT

oops forgot to add... make it so that leveling up your arena only give you access to new types of arenas where you can use to booster your strat... its kinda pointless when gets a really high level arena with like 100% -DX or something (let the modifiers be preset)

BootyGod June 12 2007 3:19 PM EDT

Rofl. I -deliberately- avoided getting to far into the descriptions of realms, to avoid bias and stuff lol. But I can't help notice both you and I use CoC lol.

Also, the reason I wanted to make sure the idea was complex is because, in my opinion, no large change should be made that isn't complex. This is a game filled with subtle relationships and I believe the more complex this is made the more fun it will be.

lostling June 12 2007 3:23 PM EDT

:) Cold = coc duh lol ne way you could also give coc a penalty on sand and FB a boost... since sand is Hot as most people term it but yea... thats my point :) however hot saps energy and maybe there a STR penalty?

/me votes yes to this change

Going to hi-jack this with an old yet much much better idea.
Night & Day! Which would work off server time like that of bonus times.
Night= | Day=
-rangepth| +range pth
+evasion| -evasion
+CoC | -CoC
-Fireball | +Fireball
+VA | -VA
-GA | +GA
BL, UC, and most other spells don't deserve a boost/drop or logically speaking don't fall into the night and day thing.

ScY June 12 2007 6:14 PM EDT

/me doesnt agree with the "much better idea" part, but implementing a night/day WITH environments would be even cooler

Silatt June 12 2007 6:27 PM EDT

Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic the Gathering would be proud.

SaintMichael June 13 2007 11:34 AM EDT

Interesting. I like the idea of spending clan point. In fact, I think it might be cool if only clan members could use environments. Just adds another option. Also, there is only a single environment per clan, being like the clan's domain. A member who the environment doesn't effect or negatively effects might seek after another clan who has characters similar to his.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 13 2007 11:53 AM EDT

Day and night would just be too detrimental to some people who work late shifts. It's a cool idea, only not very practical.

BootyGod June 13 2007 1:04 PM EDT

I'm with Ash on the day night thing and is one of the variations I thought about. While fun, I and probably other players would only ever get to play in one, which would limit the point. Also, I wanted something that would be customizable to the individual. Something for everyone to put their minds to.

Also, I love the idea of spending clan points on this. Would be fun.

Also Gun... I don't really mind you hijacking your thread, but mind not putting my own idea down at the same time?
