Anyone else notice the Superman ride accident last Thursday? (in Off-topic)

I noticed it didn't get a whole lot of publicity, wondered if anyone else saw it.

FYI, if you didn't know, Thursday of last week a 13-y.o. girl was riding the Superman Tower of Power ride at a Six Flags in Kentucky when a cable snapped and her feet were sliced off at the ankles.

I never saw a headline on it until a coworker told me about it and I googled it.

We got the news here only it was mainly about Dreamworld (one of the major fun parks in Australia) They have a very similar ride called the "great drop" same thing, gets you up really high and you free-fall down.

The cafuffle was that Dreamworld refused to close the ride after what happened to the girl.

this is what we got in the News.

All we heard in the news was that a local ride, the Flying Dutchman crashed. No injuries.
Perhaps a coincidence, but some problems during the build of this ride were solved with the help of the same company that built those other 2 tower rides...

And I've been on that ride :\ The great drop that is.

We got the news, well at least my mom did, and then told me, because the week earlier, my girlfriend and i were at Six Flags St. Louis and rode the ride there! Scary!

From CNN's article:

"The girl's feet were completely amputated just below the ankle Thursday afternoon while riding the Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville.

Her feet were recovered by Six Flags staff and were sent to the hospital with her, McLean said."

That's just messed up. Imagine working at an amusement park just operating rides, minding your own business, when-- bang!! Two little girl feet fall right in front of you... and they expect you to send them off to the hospital with the little girl. That kind of stuff should only be happening in war zones...

I couldn't help smiling at the way you put that, Mem.

I can't believe what life would be like for that little girl.. one day you come to Six Flags expecting to have some fun, the next day, you can never walk again?

We've got a park here in MN, Valley Fair, an almost identical model of the ride was shut down as a result of this accident.
