Just ranting a bit on a slow afternoon. (in Off-topic)
-Oh so very Massive IMO sign-
I just can't stand the stupidity anymore. Everywhere I go, I hear the same songs. The same 10 songs. At home, because of my sister-in-law, in the train because of the INSANE amount of freaking iPods, at school because of the infected folks who listens to crappy music on their computers, and then at work because, oh joy, the virus has infected every one of my fellow technicians.
Hear my cries, for my brain is writhing in pain:
I HATE MAINSTREAM MUSIC!
You thought all those zombie movies were scary huh? Well, I am beginning to find that they are pretty close to our present reality!
How can it be possible for an entire population to like ALL THE SAME 10 SONGS! How can people, as diverse and different as they are, all have the same taste in music!? I just don't get it. I don't get it and it makes me mad. Truly angered.
Can't they all tell they are being blatantly MADE to like the very crappy "music" my generation has put out in recent years?
How can they enjoy, them brilliant folks, to be every day fooled into humming retarded and downright hateful/sexist/debilitating lyrics that a 4-year old could well have put on paper?
I feel insulted. Do I have "retard" stamped on my forehead?
I mean, of course I happen to like the occasional hit that's on the radio. But how can they, who decide what's hot and what's not, them brilliant wizards of modern times, be 100% certain that anything that plays out of the cursed box will be liked BY EVERYONE!? How can it happen?
The radio has been on all morning here. My mother likes the radio a lot. Even though, as I have verified using the very convenient invention that is called a "watch", every song is repeated EVERY 30 minutes! How insane is that?
There are songs I like a lot. As I have stated before, I looooove Metallica. They are more than my favorite band, if there ever was a rank above "favorite". Could I listen to "Fade To Black" 10 times in a row, or even 10 times in a day? Heck no. Maybe if it was the first time I heard it. Maybe. But then again, if it indeed was one of these songs that made me all fuzzy inside (You certainly know the feeling you get when you first listen to "The Song".) could I listen to it 10 times in a row....every day for a week? Again, heck no.
Then how does everybody manage to do it, and...still think the music playing is good? I don't know. I find it scary. Very scary. Because, you know what has the exact same effect?
Some pretty nasty drugs.
Huh huh. Of course, music will never hurt you. Not physically. It reaches far deeper. Commercially propagated music damages individuality. It damages the subconscious mind. It damages you wallet, also :) It's like someone directly poking sticks at your brains. Playing around with what you like. Legally. Again, I find it scary.
What about me, heh? I'll agree that I certainly sound pretty arrogant right now, accusing EVERYONE ELSE of being a stupid sheep.
Ahhh...as much as I'd like to be different, I must say...
I got this song in my head...
Dang, consumerism must have gotten me too.
slow?!?! We got Tournies coming!!

Sounds to me like you need a change from the normal.
I'd recommend you go out and get yourself some of the Carpenters. Karen and Richard made some good tunes and I'm sure you would just lurve their 1973 hit "Sing".
I'm sure it would be a talking point with your friends and really be a stand out in your music collection.
Yes, they are "coming"! In the meantime, I'm fighting sleep over here!

What songs are you ranting about? :)
Mmm, first one that comes to mind would be Umbrella, by Rhianna, who's name I surely butchered. I can't believe how her voice has been so heavily computer-engineered. Worse is, when I state that, and say she can't sing...I'm told I'm retarded.
Really, It's a computer who sings. Clear as day.
Also, I can't say the Carpenters were really my cup of tea. But you know, I'd prefer if it was them on the radio. Rather than some hip hop crap. (Not all hip hop is crap. I feel that the songs that represent the genre are pretty horrendous though.) Really, at least they have a live singer.

What? You are retarded. Computers do not sing! Days are not clear, they are obviously opaque!
*chortles*
In all seriousness, though....I agree with you, man. Hearing the same couple songs gets really old, REALLY fast.

Umbrella... heh...
Nelly Furtado! That's annoying!
The songs are not so bad, but the repetition! ARGH!

Ever heard of I-Doser? If not, Google it. Interesting what they can do with music now :p
I agree with this too I hate rap and hip hop unless it has a meaning not this weird dance moves and stuff it gets me annoyed i listen to mostly alternative music which I like the best but its always your choice of what to listen to my advice go off the mainstream and stay far from it.
You know what song makes me want to kill myself? That "Lipgloss" song, or that "You can stay under my umbrella ella ella eh eh" song... Everything else on MTV I don't mind so much.
Whoa whoa. Rap and hip-hop are not synonymous with mainstream. I resent your comment and your opinion. Because it may or may not have dancing in it, it means all rap/hip-hop does? And even if it did, what does this have to do with the music itself? You're referring to the videos, which is, I believe, different from the music. Unless I'm wrong, you're saying you don't like the music because of the videos, which seems like a little ridiculous. "I don't like the music because they dance in the videos."
And everytime I ask someone why they don't like rap, they don't usually say they just don't like the music first. They say they don't like the videos, or the perceived audience.

Demeaning to everyone, especially women. Usually has no greater meaning than the actual words which aren't very intelligent at all.
I hate rap.
50 Cent, Eminem, all those other rappers. All their 'music' is about is "Oh, look at me. I'm so buff and rich and I have lots of bling. Look at my bling! Pay more attention to my bling! LOOK AT MY BLING ALREADY! I get lots of women, and you don't. I'm so much better than you. Did I tell you about my bling? I don't think I've told you about my bling. Look at my shiny car, too. It's so shiny. Shiny like my bling.", but with a billion more 'z's and spelling mistakes, and a few dozen -bleep-s in there, as well.
That's pretty much all I have to say. :)
I'm tired of these perceived stereotypes about rap/hip-hop. Sure, most rap videos I've seen objectify women to some extent. But most of the songs I have listened to do not. Just because you don't think it has meaning or do not understand it doesn't mean it that other people see it that way.
You can stereotypically judge any genre of music. Like how emo is nothing but whiny music about broken hearts and stuff like that. Or how harder rock is just screaming and angst for people with too much testosterone. But for some reason, everyone seems to like to point out the stereotypes of rap or hip-hop on CB and try to present them as facts as why the genre of music isn't good.
You've named 2 rappers, and just classify everyone else in the same group. What about Kanye West? Lupe Fiasco? Akon? Are all they apart of those same glass of rappers?

You did not just say Akon.
Let's say I can't even say one of his song titles to support my theory because of unPGness and objectifying women. But another, "Smack that".
I think we're talking about the majority, Kanye West doesn't do that, I don't think, and I've heard one song by Lupe Fiasco, and that song was cool, but you just can't go picking out a few good ones out of big bunch.
Well, I've started listening to rap, but I haven't heard the whole genre. I only know a few rappers, so it's not just picking a few out of the bunch, those artists make up a large percentage of the rappers I've heard and can think of.
Akon...I really don't care you ride in a Gallardo. Now, please, go play in traffic, WITHOUT the car. Thank you.

LOL. okay so... if you know rap, akon isn't even rap. also... Kanye West raps about school/graduation mostly and has a good connotation. Other rappers... take 50 cent for example, rap about non-PG stuff. However, many people listen to rap because the songs carry a good beat or because of the slick rhymes and not necessarily because of the lyrics being used. I personally like kanye west because he provides another perspective into the "rapping world". I am also fond of many other rappers and SINGERS including akon.
To tell you the truth, I don't even like Akon. His voice is annoying. And for his Myspace if you search him under Music, it lists him as "Genre: Hip Hop / R&B / Pop". :P
I do LOVE that "Party Like A Rock Star" song, which has nothing to do with Akon, thank goodness..
Oh. And I hate that song "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt.

Listen to Kanye
Everyone has their right to their opinion, whether you agree or not. Personally, I know plenty of smart/conscientious people that like rap/hip-hop. I dislike the mainstream "gangster" rap/hiphop, that has no real meaning. I believe lyrics have to make sense and be relevant to truly be appreciated.
Oh, since this topic is about music, if you haven't heard of last.fm here's a link. B-loved
