Here's how it works: I'm going to show you the best one I've ever seen and if anyone can top it you win 250k. I am the sole judge. If you haven't actually seen it in person don't bother posting it-- so if you can't provide me with the meta data of the photo steer clear. Without any further ado:

Just for clarification, you want a photo of the best work of graffiti? Or just stencil art?

Just for clarification, graffiti is "the illegal or unauthorized defacing of a building, wall or other edifice or object by painting or otherwise marking it with words, pictures or symbols." That would include stencil art. :)

Alas I can't prove this with evidence of me actually seeing it so I'm not entering into your competition but I did walk past this completed piece of work by Julian Beever this time two years ago when the G8 summit was being held in Edinburgh. It's really amazing and although it doesn't look it, the picture is about 40ft long. 3D pavement art is great :)

I saw a really good one in Detroit about 20 years ago.It was the best I'd ever seen but I doubt if it's still there.

So tell me, Xiaz, where do you go to buy a stencil that's nearly 3 feet tall of a man like that? Creating the stencil counts as art as well. Mind you, this is only the best tag I've seen in person. I know there has to be a better one out there. And it's not illegal if you put it on your own building...

i LOVE the sidewalk chalk art. Wish i had actually walked by some of it instead of just internet pictures.

This contest ends on Sunday when I get home from my vacation (~10pm server time).

In all fairness, it was a valid question - Yes Mem, there are places/people you can go to (here in Sydney) to commission such works of art.

Here's one I see almost everyday on my trip to uni, and is superb IMHO. I didn't take this, I won't be able to get there anytime soon, but I hope you enjoy :)

Whereas in Melbourne, there's a very healthy stencil art scene.
