Choosing where to place your Familiar... (in General)

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] July 11 2007 6:42 PM EDT

This has bothered me for some time. Why can't we choose where to put our familiars in combat order? An option on the train page should do the trick...

Because right now I want to train a Decay on my front minion, equipping a familiar, so I can make use of his NS bonus - however, it sends my familiar to the front, which makes him a lot easier to kill by an ELB + HoC or just plain melee, since he would then be the fourth target to be hit, not the fifth.

Also when I ran a SFBM I was training Evasion on him and I equipped a familiar - if I was able to move him to the back, he would have been protected by the Evasion on my main minion for at least one or two rounds... But no, stupid familiar rule moved him up to the front and had him killed when he had only fired once or twice.

Thoughts?

Because there's no actual "minion slot" for the familiar for you to move.

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] July 11 2007 6:56 PM EDT

Well, easily enough (I think) you could make a thingy on the train page that shows your familiar's stats and a move left option...

That minion has an AoI on already, so I'm not really sure why that is a problem for you...

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] July 11 2007 7:02 PM EDT

If two minions have an AoI, then the one in the front will get hit.

(As long as all other minions are dead)

Familiars (when equipped by said minion) are in front of minions training a DD or equipping a weapon, behind a minion that does not attack.

It is another part of strategy how you choose to work your familiar into this. Sometimes you have to rearrange minions, etc. to get your familiar where you want him due to this. It is kind of like playing with puzzles. *shrugs* Or at least, that's how I see it.

I see it as a tattoo, not as a hired minion that should be on our Train page, however. You seem to see it differently, as I've noticed in this thread and in the thread about losing with all minions dead but the familiar - I see that as all minions dead but the tattoo. =P

I'd love for the option to chose familiar placement to exists, as this would make Junction more attractive...but it's unlikely to happen.

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] July 11 2007 8:02 PM EDT

Ah, well, guess my familiar-reliant team is somewhat defective.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 11 2007 8:21 PM EDT

Mine certainly is...

maybe making familiars able to stand alone and tattoos needed to be equiped will balance out the TOEs and the TOA's somewhat... BUT... i think familiars would need to be equipped if you want to use junction :) so familiar users get to choose whether they want junction or placement

Flamey July 11 2007 9:41 PM EDT

and further crappify the other tattoos? OK I'm kidding, crappifying the RoS and the RoBF.

lostling July 11 2007 10:06 PM EDT

simple just make runes dont have to be equipped too

Nerevas July 12 2007 2:08 AM EDT

I kind of see the limitations to familiar placement (see: feature) as a part of the strategy.

i still think TOA and TOE should have some sorta nerf lol... yep... after using TOE in the recent tourny i have gotta agree... i think it was ranger who said... whatever ROS can do TOE can do better lol... somehow i agree with that...

One of the many choices CB has to offer. :)

Do you train Decay for some extra "oomph", and move your familiar up one spot, or do you leave out decay for the chance to let the familiar live longer?

The thing is, letting you choose exactly where to put the familiar takes out some of the choice; some choices are better than others. If you have a +50 MgS and +50 EH on your back minion, you'll probably want your familiar near the back. If you have 425 AC in the front, you'll want your familiar right behind the wall to protect against MM.

The way it is, you'll most likely have to make a sacrifice power-wise in order to get your familiar in the optimal position, which I think is just fine. :)

Tats are the desiderata of all good teams. Having to work out "where" to put it, then "how" to get it where you want it is what's left of the fun!

Bast is nothing short of a herald of the obvious with that kind of "advice".
