We've all got them, What's your favorite band no one has ever heard of (in Off-topic)

MudBug The Redeemer July 17 2007 2:06 PM EDT

Please list the name of band and type of music they play, as well as a link to their webpage/profile/ect. Please only list one or two to avoid huge response threads. I figure this may help us CB'ers get turned onto some music we would otherwise miss out on. I'll start.

Band: The Handsome Family Type of music : Gothic Country/Folk Link(s): MySpace URL: http://www.myspace.com/thehandsomefamily Webpage: http://www.handsomefamily.com/

Band: The Hurt Process Type of music : Screamo/hardcore emo/ metalcore Link(s): MySpace URL: http://www.myspace.com/thehurtprocess Webpage: http://www.thehurtprocess.com

Freakwater - Two women, primarily. Folksy, alternate country. Harmonious.
Dieselhed - West Coast stoners. Alternative punk country. Whack.

The names are unique enough that folks can Google themselves, if interested. I don't think Dieselhed is together any more, and not even sure they have much of a web presence.

/me waits patiently for gems of wisdom from thrak...

One of my all time favourite bands who did absolutely nothing:

Band: The Prisoners Type of music: 60's influenced psychedelic garage punk pop

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoners

A mix of The Doors/Small Faces/Hendrix/Stranglers/Zeppelin who burned brightly for a few years in the 80s then imploded; very influential on a lot of British bands who all achieved much much more success.

Keep in mind that I know a lot of obscure music and could probably find a Gregorian rap group if I were in the mood for something like that. Unusual combinations are always fun to explore for the first time, and these are two groups that I've seen live (snicker) in Columbus, Ohio at some point over the past two or three years.

Vampire Beach Babes
Gothabilly (with a little bit of surfer music thrown in during their early period)

An old band of mine Slinky with a fantastic singer, Kirsty, who now performs around the world singing opera and with several choirs. Very successfully too.

Xenko July 20 2007 7:21 AM EDT

Apocalyptica is awesome... although I question the "classical" classification. :D

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] July 20 2007 7:28 AM EDT

4 cellos is what makes it classical metal rather than just metal :)
I actually went to see them live a couple of years ago, pure brilliance.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 20 2007 9:17 AM EDT

I can't remember the website right now but the band is called: Nightwish lets call them : Symphonic metal i like them :) im not actually sure if its not nationally known or something :D

Xenko July 20 2007 9:25 AM EDT

D'oh. I misread the initial post and only read classical, and not classical metal. My bad.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] July 20 2007 9:42 AM EDT

Nightwish are one of the most famous bands in their genre and most people will have heard of them (not necessarily heard them)

QBPit Spawn [Abyssal Specters] July 20 2007 2:51 PM EDT

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 20 2007 2:54 PM EDT

I've never actually met anyone that knows about Nightwish. i ask them all though :) Thats why i thought that most people didn't know about them. I heard about them via wikipedia. some obscure link =D.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 20 2007 2:55 PM EDT

Sorry didn't pick HTML :)

Mem July 20 2007 4:15 PM EDT

The Getup Kids aren't a band that no one has heard of. In fact, up until their demise they were quite popular, having had several songs on [main stream] radio stations across America.

48Zach July 21 2007 6:39 PM EDT

Does anyone know of any bands that sing in sotto voce? I like that style, if there is some acoustic guitar, or instruments in there that made it sounds nice.

Lochnivar July 21 2007 8:30 PM EDT

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Headstones

you probably haven't heard of them but the music is soo good (if you like rock)

[CB1]Kris July 22 2007 12:35 AM EDT

White Noise - Electric Storm (one for the oldies)

Daz July 26 2007 2:00 PM EDT

Yes, nightwish are awesome. They are releasing stuff with the new lead singer soon. She has *amazing* eyes.

I love Within Temptation - similar music to nightwish. A lot of people have heard of them.

My favourite band not many people has heard of is Dry Cell, but a lot of people know of their song "Body Crumbles" because of the queen of the damned soundtrack.

48Zach July 26 2007 2:07 PM EDT

Any listen to a genre called "zydeco"?? It's like french//caribbean music combined.

AdminQBVerifex July 26 2007 2:35 PM EDT

This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb
- But only because that name is funny and someone got arrested for putting one of their promotional stickers on their bike. I've never actually heard their music though.

Noxious Emotion - Because the front man for the band runs Seattle's only industrial music shop.

Static Engine - The main guy is cool.

There are a ton more but, I can't think of them right now.

Mem July 26 2007 5:16 PM EDT

This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb is almost as good, musically speaking of course, as Plot to Blow Up The Eiffel Tower.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] July 27 2007 12:05 PM EDT

Jack Off Jill

Only for their funny name, don't really listen to them :P
