The colo facility seems to lose power fairly frequently. Then CB gets pissed because the web server comes up before the database and doesn't know how to deal with that.
I've added logic to the startup to wait for the database. This should mitigate the problem in the future.

No UPS and genset?
Maybe it's luck, but in the past 9 years or so that we are hosting at our colo, there have been 0 power failures. During those 9 years, the power structure has been upgraded several times, with no downtime at all.
9 years with no downtime? What kind of insane colo place are you hosting at?!?!

Let's just hope that it won't be put to the test any time soon.
Thanks for being as dedicated as you are Jon. I, for one, know that I appreciate you taking time out of your personal life for this game.
To everyone else, Welcome back to CB!.... wOOt

Virtu.nl (current website is in Dutch only).
Their facility is in a former bank building (Dutch National Bank). This includes a bank vault of almost 5000 square feet and an atomic shelter (great for storing backup tapes and file servers, as it qualifies as 'off site'). Since its use as a bank, security was not relaxed, but improved instead. There are 2 penthouses in the building, so it's easier for them to have 24x7 onsite support. The power infrastructure is well thought out and includes 4000 gallons of diesel onsite and the oil company at only half a mile away, so they'd survive any length of power outage.
Given this, I'm not that surprised that we have had no power failures at all. Since it was installed in May 2002, our router was only rebooted once.

I think that this is more like a "God created light, and on the seventh day he rested" type of thing. Cb is down every Thursday for the last month -- every 7 days.
No complaints though ;)
