supportership items (in General)

lostling September 2 2007 4:35 AM EDT

i believe this has been brought up before... i think jon should let every player buy 1 of each of the past supporter items for lets say USD$10 (current ones for USD$6)
reasons being
1. more money to jon would help the server
2. since everyone has 1 of the past items the prices will become reasonable again
3. those people who need more then 1 of those items can either trade or buy it relatively easily from each other

current prices
HOC 5-5.5mill
MGS ~3mill
AOF ~3mill
ROE ~1.2-1.5mill
AOI ~3mill
TSA ~1.2mill

please give your comments ^^

Having had access to purchase an 'old' supporter item is a small perk to being an old player.

I don't see the need to change this.

Plus it would encourage multis by encouraging a new player to create an account, buy all the support items for dollars, sell them, rinse and repeat.

GL, to your last point, I would hope that our great and mighty admins might catch that multi before his nefarious and evil plan of world domination came to fruition! ;)

But to the topic at hand--- I have put quite a few threads forward suggesting the very same thing that lostling is.

With the cost of N*Bing being what it is now (that is buying BA to reach a reasonably low MPR), old players need all the money that they can get.

It seems that items which old players would have to use in order to be even semi-competitive should not be subject to ridiculous prices --- 5.5M an example of one of them.

Hopefully something along the lines suggested by Lostling might get implemented although my hopes are slightly downtrodden seeing as this is ChangeMonth #3 in which this has been suggested.

Think about it. You will probably catch him just after he buys all the items.

So think. Him buying 50$ worth of items and then him being caught. And those items going right back where they belong.. Thats 50$ more for Jon without losing any thing. Thatd be really good.

My comments:

Items are more expensive because the game has been going on for a while, therefore there's more money around; NUBs increase the amount of cash flowing into the game, therefore the amount that can be spent; value of items increases over time, and I don't see anything wrong with that; and last but not least, when you make an item all but necessary to a strategy, of course it will become ridiculously expensive, SUPPORTER ITEM or NOT.

It wouldn't have mattered if the HoC was supporter or not - just check items overview, only the Corns outnumber them in the Helmet department. It's just the nature of the object to be that high.

There's my comments.

The relatively rarity of the items sets their prices, but so does the accepted view that they are necessary to certain strategies. Too many times it's said that to run a ranged focused team you NEED a HoC. Or to have a proper wall you NEED a mage shield. Use some imagination people, you can get by without these items. They help, but it's not impossible to run teams without them.

And if you do need them...that's what rentals are for. ;)

Supporter items are the only items that are almost guaranteed to add people to your fightlist...they are very dramatic in the scale of item power.

I enjoyed having items that were actually rare and hard to get on cb1, I don't know if that's still the case here. Seeing a single helm become so desired that it's the single most expensive item in game is a little scary. I think power balance (either by nerf, or by releasing an equally powerful alternative item) would do more than just releasing another batch of the same. This is where splitting the HoC into two helms would be awesome. Make the HoC a tank only (or mage only) item, and release a Veil of Prescience for mages.

Supporter items should be special, and rare in terms of the cost in CB; but not this special.

you don't need an HoC to win....

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] September 2 2007 11:34 AM EDT

... when you have a 200M MH ;)

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] September 2 2007 11:55 AM EDT

AoF's aren't 3M...

lostling September 2 2007 12:03 PM EDT

those are examples...
could we have some newer players to give some oppinions?
