Brakke Bres [Ow man] September 6 2007 10:34 AM EDT

And the real strong ones for the men?

QBsutekh137 September 6 2007 10:39 AM EDT

All you could ever need to know is here. Have fun! Drink responsibly!

Brakke Bres [Ow man] September 6 2007 10:44 AM EDT

Ya sutekh, ive seen many of these sites, but how do i know which are good? which are tasty? So i need some feedback from the CB community :)

QBJohnnywas September 6 2007 10:45 AM EDT

All of them.

If I'm forced to choose......um.....Long Island Iced Tea will do rather nicely.

QBJohnnywas September 6 2007 10:45 AM EDT

Tastes good; and is pretty strong too!

AdminG Beee September 6 2007 11:01 AM EDT

Cider Whiskey Sour: mmmm, served hot it's to die for. Google the recipe.

Also, a nice easy one and something to get the audience smiling :)

Take one bottle of vodka.
Pour a measure or two into a glass.
Select your favourite flavoured gummy bear (never the green one as they turn the vodka a very poor brownish colour) and drop four of them into the vodka bottle.
Replace the bottle top and using gaffer tape seal it shut.
Place the bottle into the dishwasher on the hottest wash you have. (If at a dinner party - take the opportunity to clear up the kitchen at the same time).
On completion of hot wash cool the bottle as quickly (and safely) as possible. The Scottish method (ie putting it outside in the snow) is probably not useful for you at this time of year :)

After chilled you will have a lovely flavoured vodka :)

Remember - avoid green, and always drink responsibly :)

Oh, for taste you need to...taste them! Seriously, very few cocktails are actively vile. At worst, some may be an acquired taste, but they are still good (and still get the job done). If it sounds fun to make, then make it and see!

I myself find that lime works in almost everything, so I tend to turn most experimental things into "gimlets". *smile* Such tricks work well for simple palates (like mine).

Other things that go together to the point of tasting like candy (hard to taste the alcohol):

-- Vodka and citrus (lemonade, lime, grapefruit...)
-- Gin and citrus (same as above). Tonic also works well with the gin, naturally.
-- Rum and cola (use decent rum, otherwise it will still taste "hot")
-- Classic martini (vodka/gin and vermouth, lime juice and bitters to taste)
-- Anything involving a liqueur and/or schnapps -- there are so many of those types of drinks these days I cannot keep up. Hiram Walker has recently (maybe not so recently) started a very nice schnapps line having grapefruit and pomegranate flavors. Mix with something fizzy like Fresca for a lighter, exceedingly tasty drink.
Margaritas (can't go wrong, use decent tequila)
Daquaris (can't go wrong, use decent rum)

Start with these as a base and learn your way around what tastes good together (and what proportions). You don't need a fancy shaker or full bar set. A blender that can get ice chopped down a bit and a simple strainer/shaker is all you need (a few bucks at Target). Proper glassware is optional, but fun to get right. Drinking a martini out of a juice tumbler just doesn't cut it. *smile*

Also, have fun with garnish! Olives in martinis and celery in bloody marys make a difference. *smile*

You can later move on to bourbon and scotch drinks, but those definitely fall under the "acquired taste" category, in my book. As always, you can lime the Hell out of anything, but decent bourbon and lime, while tasting OK, just tastes like bourbon and lime. *smile*

Most of all, have FUN! Make small portions so you can taste more things responsibly!

QBJohnnywas September 6 2007 11:15 AM EDT

I'd go with the 'taste' test. Get as many ingredients as possible and make the party a tasting night; after a while you won't care what they taste like!!!!

AdminG Beee September 6 2007 11:31 AM EDT

Please don't waste good whisky though. You get the jail for less over here...

Brakke Bres [Ow man] September 6 2007 11:56 AM EDT

come now G, the classic long drink
2 parts whiskey
3 parts cola

You need to use a Red label whiskey for this.

Ow and this one is cool:

Ingredient Amount
Schnapps, peach 1 1/2 oz.
Vodka 1 1/2 oz.
Cranberry Juice 2 oz.
Orange Juice 2 oz.
Pineapple Juice 2 oz.
Called a sex on the beach, perfect for the females :)

AdminG Beee September 6 2007 12:32 PM EDT

Red label is fine. Blended whisky is fine. Good whisky (malt) would be wasted with anything other than a couple of lumps of ice or a dash of water :)

8DEOTWP September 6 2007 12:36 PM EDT

how about some mount gay rum and lipton brisk green apple tea
it gets you drunk, and tastes good ;o

drudge September 6 2007 1:51 PM EDT

what booze do you already have?

i go to www.drinknation.com and just enter what booze/ingredients i have and it will list what it knows in its database.

Adminedyit [Superheros] September 6 2007 3:03 PM EDT

Alabama Slammers!,

4 equal parts
1. Southern Comfort
2. Slow Gin
3. Amaretto
4. Orange Juice

Tastes like Hawaiian Punch so ladies like it, but is 3/4 booze so it gets you mangled fast. (Please Drink Responsibly)

Brakke Bres [Ow man] September 6 2007 3:22 PM EDT

All so good and tasty!!!!
I like the Alabama slammers and long island iced tea!

and don't worry i always drink responsible! (and lots too!!!!!)

Brakke Bres [Ow man] September 6 2007 3:29 PM EDT

I have rum, whiskey, absinthe, Blue curacao, pisang ambon, pasoa and much more. Plenty enough to mix and i got a liquor store around the corner so what i don't have i can buy :)

And the spell checker doesn't like all these drinks! he doesn't know them!

BooDiggens September 6 2007 3:32 PM EDT

Shooter and drinks that ladies order the most where I work

Pineapple Upside-down cake:

Equal parts Vanilla vodka and Pineapple juice
Splash of grenadine.
Usually served as a shooter, but I'm sure it would be just as good as a cocktail.

Purple hooter:

1 oz Chambord
1 oz Raspberry vodka
Splash of 7up
Splash of Cranberry juice

Apple Matini:

Equal parts Vodka
Sour apple liquer (apple pucker)
and apple juice
Rim the glass with sugar and garnish with an apple to score extra points.

Cosmopolitan Martini:

2 parts Vodka
1 part Triple Sec
1 part Cranberry juice
Twist of lime

Washington apple: (shooter)

3 parts Crown Royal
2 parts Apple pucker
1 part Cranberry juice

For the guys:

Jack and Coke. That's all I ever drink.

drudge September 6 2007 3:56 PM EDT

Blue curacao is blue snow cone juice! that stuff is good

Adminedyit [Superheros] September 6 2007 4:40 PM EDT

Jamesons, add ice cubes to taste.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] September 6 2007 5:08 PM EDT

i see the most of you guys out there love there liquor straight up. Or mixed with coke. But thanks for the recipes i shall try a few out!

sooka September 6 2007 5:09 PM EDT

Long Island is my favorite.
I know a lot of girls who dig Alabama slammers. MaiTais are sweet, and girls also dig Cosmos. Flaming Dr. Peppers are fun and this recipe sounds sweet and fruity:

Michael Moros Detroit Boy Cocktail Recipe
Category: Blended recipes

Ingredients :
- 3 oz vodka
- 1 oz condensed milk
- 2 oz passion-fruit juice
- 1/2 oz orange liqueur (cointreau, grand marnier...)

sooka September 6 2007 5:11 PM EDT

oh and Captain Morgans and coke is a very simple and good drink (rum and coke), I prefer it to Jack and Coke

NotSuitablForChildren [Yeeeaahh.................] September 6 2007 5:15 PM EDT

BooDiggity has the right idea, except the Washington apples.

One that he forgot though is Oatmeal cookies.

1 part Bailey's
1 part Goldshlager (sp?)
1 part Jagermeister

layer the shot with the Bailey's on top

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] September 6 2007 5:48 PM EDT

These are on the low end of the alcohol-fumes-up-your-nose scale, otherwise referred to as "chick drinks'.

Switch to a vanilla- or cranberry- flavored vodkas, then make vodka and lemonade.

Butterscotch schnapps, lightly iced and served in liqueur/cordial glasses, makes a simple aperitif. Bonus fun: serve and have guests try to guess what the flavor actually is.

Godiva's Chocolatini One serving
1 1/2 shots Godivaᆴ chocolate liqueur
1 1/2 shots creme de cacao
1/2 shot vodka
2 1/2 shots half-and-half

Mix all ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake then strain into a chilled cocktail glass, rimmed with chocolate syrup. Sometimes served with a dollop of whipped cream. The figure-conscious will use one shot of cream or half-and-half, 1 1/2 shots of skim milk.

BooDiggens September 6 2007 5:56 PM EDT

NSFC:

I use a bit of cinnamon schnapps in my oatmeal cookies too. Not too much though, it can overpower the flavor.

BooDiggens September 6 2007 6:02 PM EDT

Oops, didn't see the Gold schlager there, But NSFC, where is the Butter shots: 1 part Bailey's 1 part Jagermeister 1 part Butterscotch Schnapps 1/2 part Gold schlager or Cinnamon Schnapps

Xenko September 6 2007 11:56 PM EDT

If you really want a challenge you can try a Singapore Sling.

8 parts Gin
4 parts Heering Cherry Liqueur (cherry brandy)
1 part Cointreau
1 part DOM Bénédictine
2 parts Grenadine
16 parts Pineapple juice
6 parts Fresh lemon juice
1 dash Angostura bitters

Shake over ice cubes and strain into a highball glass. Garnish with pineapple and maraschino cherry. Good luck :D

Jugg September 10 2007 5:40 AM EDT

Bacardi Apple + Sprite
Served with ice, and a slice of lemon or lime.

Produces a rather unique taste, a bit similar to green apple peel.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] September 10 2007 6:56 AM EDT

One cocktail I can't get over is a Red Dwarf that a couple of bars around here make. There is no specific number of measures for each ingredient (there never should be, it should be down to taste testing :) ).

The ingredients:
White Rum
Archers
Cider
Fruit Juice
Raspberry Crusher

These are not the same ingredients you'll find on recipe websites but I think it comes out much better, tastes just like the juices but is still strong enough to kill an ox with the right measures :P

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 10 2007 4:25 PM EDT

Sex on the Beach.

Orange Juice, Vodka, Archers (peach schnapps), Cranberry Juice/Grenadine.

What you should then do, is evolve your own, until you hit a combination that tastes like fruit juice with enough alcholo to sate George Best. Call it the 'Nick Special' then pass out and hear the next day about being carried to bed and all the guys (the girls quite sensibly wouldn't touch the stuff), bar GL, throw up in every room of your house...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 10 2007 4:28 PM EDT

Edit: I should add, while I didn't throw up (unlike my best mate, who ran outside to the gutter, and barfed in front of the 'little old lady' from next door) I did lay in the hallway crying in pain as my body tried to reject the 'Nick Special'. That sure did my chances of pulling that night immense good...

I was fine the next day though.

DH September 10 2007 4:46 PM EDT

A homemade recipe from my drinking days.

1 cup(optional)(ice, splash of water optional as well)
750ml bottle of Macallen Gran Reserva 1979, (its really expensive...really really, between 200-700 dollars)

OR!
1 part Midori
2 parts Rum 151
2 parts Orange Juice
1 part pineapple juice
1 part peach schnapps

It tastes so good its not funny..it will also make you take your clothes off if you drink too much...least thats what it does to me.
