A thing of beauty (in Off-topic)

To beat France is very rare in football as they are genuinely one of the best teams in the world. They've lost 3 games in their last gazillion competitive matches. 2 of them have been against Scotland within the last 9 months both home and away.

I felt the need to share the wonder goal that doomed France to defeat in Paris on Wednesday night :)

Enjoy

This result was spectacular, i greatly enjoy the table at this time:-
1 Scotland 9 7 0 2 21
2 Italy 9 6 2 1 20
3 France 9 6 1 2 19
4 Ukraine 8 4 1 3 13
5 Lithuania 9 3 1 5 10
6 Georgia 9 2 1 6 7
7 Faroe Islands 9 0 0 9 0

For those who don't realise how great this is, Italy won the world cup, beating i believe france in the final. Ukraine went through the group stages and got beat i think by Brazil. However Scotland sit on top right now:)

Unfortunately for Ukraine they have to rely on Shevchenko and Recoba to pull out all the stops which makes it difficult for them.
France and Italy always pull something out of the bag when it is needed but Scotland generally have a well-rounded team.
I also feel that England have a good chance now as long as they realise they have found a great midfield partnership in Gerrard and Barry (I'm a Villa fan so may seem bias'd) but we all know when Hargreaves or Lampard are back, one of them will be put straight back in.

What is this? I can tell its soccer, but what cup is it? or is it a friendly match? But I doubt that seeing there's a table posted.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] September 17 2007 8:29 AM EDT

European Championships Flamey, it is played every 4 years also but 2 years after each World Cup.

Flamey September 17 2007 8:32 AM EDT

Is that different to the Euro Cup? Coz I could've sworn that was in 2004 not 2003.

bartjan September 17 2007 9:04 AM EDT

It's the same. And yes, the cup itself is played in every "Olympic®™" year, but they can't allow each and every European country to enter (Faroe Islands for example...), so the year before the cup, there are qualifying rounds.

... is a joy forever.

That's what my Dad used to say anyway.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] September 17 2007 12:17 PM EDT

Flamey, same as with the World Cup, the whole thing wasn't played in 2006, only the final stages, qualifiers have to be spread out over the previous year in order to not conflict heavily with club football.

Strange times indeed, armageddon can't be far away :)

We beat France in Scotland in the home leg of the tie too, and this is what it sounds and feels like to be one of the 52,000 supporters at that particular game in Glasgow a few months ago.
I've been to more important matches in bigger stadiums filled with over 80,000 supporters and never felt the same atmosphere as I did that Saturday afternoon.

Pity we're still not going to qualify but we've had a good run :)

Sorry if you're bored with this but /me still on a bit of a high.
