Supporter Item Version 2.0 (in General)

BootyGod September 16 2007 3:10 PM EDT

What if the game allowed supporter items to be bought but weaker versions of them.

For example:

Helm of Clear would be have a slightly different name. It's affect would be the same. Equipped minion gets the extra attack in ranged. But it gives no AC to equipped minion. This way, new players can get the item, but old players get something nice from it.

TSA: Version 2.0: Regenerates 10%. 20 base AC. Slightly higher upgrade curve. Still regeneration, still ST boost, still good, but not AS good.

You could continue this for every supporter item. This way, new players have access to these kills effects, but the vets get SMALL advantages, not overwhelming advantages.

Any thoughts?

(Look AA, constructive thinking. I rock hehehe)

Or just pay $20 after the newer item comes out. But because they are supporter items, they have a reason to be rare.

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] September 16 2007 3:12 PM EDT

I figure the Helm of Clear would be worth just around the same amount as a Helm of Clearsight...

But it's not a bad idea I guess.

lostling September 16 2007 3:13 PM EDT

errm hello? TSA only regenerates like 5%... make it 10% would be crazy

BootyGod September 16 2007 3:13 PM EDT

Of course, small. I forgot to include that. They'd still be rare. I don't want to take away the value of the original, only make it possible for players in the future to get ahold of these.

BootyGod September 16 2007 3:15 PM EDT

Ick, sorry lostling.

The idea was to make them weaker. Change the regen of the Version 2.0 to 3%.

lostling September 16 2007 3:18 PM EDT

HOC is all about the effect... personally i couldnt care less if it didnt give ANY AC at all lol

NooneKnows September 16 2007 3:27 PM EDT

additional penalty to cth? it is an earlier ranged round, after all

[P]Mitt September 16 2007 3:34 PM EDT

or perhaps an effect like junction (to a familiar)... a chance for the effect to fail?

48Zach September 16 2007 3:46 PM EDT

Keep it how it is. No re-introducing supporter items, even if weaker.. They are supporter items.. Welcome to CB.

Lord Bob September 16 2007 3:51 PM EDT

I still think Jon should auction off old supporter items for USD only once a month. It would help him cut costs, and there would be a chance for players to pick up old items. Win/win.

As for the HoC, I think every + should give the minion a 5% chance to attack in the extra round. The effect as is is insanely powerful, especially for archers.

BootyGod September 16 2007 3:51 PM EDT

They're needed. And overpriced.

If this wasn't true, would 5 of the 9 items you own be supporter items?

Lord Bob September 16 2007 4:54 PM EDT

"If this wasn't true, would 5 of the 9 items you own be supporter items?"

I counted six.

AdminNightStrike September 16 2007 5:01 PM EDT

a Lesser Helm of Clearsight, eh?

sooka September 16 2007 5:02 PM EDT

Supporter items. Indeed. So what about new supporters? Why shouldn't they be able to buy 1 of any of the past items at a higher price (10-15 dollars?).

I don't like the idea of weaker versions of the items at all.

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] September 16 2007 5:06 PM EDT

thats the ONLY advantage older players get anymore since the NUBs introduction... So no, i dont see the need to keep supporter items in regular rotation. Unless Jon wants to make more money, only way i see this coming into the game is if he raises old supporter items to $20+

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] September 16 2007 5:18 PM EDT

What's sad is that a HoC/MgS/AoI for $20 is still better than prices nowadays...

sooka September 16 2007 5:37 PM EDT

^ all the more reason that something should be done. And as far as advantages go, change has to happen with running games such as these to keep it fresh and keep a healthy player base. It makes no sense to me that vets should have supporter items as an advantage...
then the whole concept of supporter items should be changed. Game balance is usually complex. The response that Jon gets with the changes he makes are surprisingly positive... usually not everyone embraces change, but he makes some good decisions which are usually lauded.

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] September 16 2007 5:43 PM EDT

Supporter items are among to most numerous in their categories (nearly around 200 each). So don't tell me there's only enough for vets...

Yukk September 16 2007 5:46 PM EDT

When I was a NUB, I set out to buy one of every past supporter item at auction or sale. I succeeded in that. Here I am now with my supposedly super/uber items and some regular/rare items which are the ones I actually pump NW into.
That was all good back in the day, but I guess it's harder now for NUBs since I believe they don't have the bonus money. I suppose free BA works out to some extra cash but I admit it IS harder for NUBs now to get supporter items.
Even considering that, I'm still against opening up the market, as everyone who hasn't been here since the first supporter item has had to make some kind of sacrifice to get them unless they won them in a competition/raffle.

Adminedyit [Superheros] September 16 2007 8:01 PM EDT

"They're needed. And overpriced."

They are NOT needed. They are very useful but are not entirely essential to winning. And as for overpriced, whenever a new supporter item comes out I know myself and a few others buy them for other players for CB$ at a really low price. Its after that that other people sell them for an ungodly high price.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] September 16 2007 8:15 PM EDT

tell what strategy besides the melee/uc fighter doesnt use the HoC? Everyone that has something firing in ranged, be it DD be it arrows, needs the HoC!
So ya the HoC is a fine example why this should be allowed, that and the prices that went up from 1mil in the early days to 5.25mil now!

Adminedyit [Superheros] September 16 2007 8:49 PM EDT

I use a MSB and a FF and I don't use a HoC....

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] September 16 2007 9:12 PM EDT

Again, I use an axbow which is essential to my strategy and a HoE is better than a HoC for me, how is a HoC essential to anyone using ranged?
The only thing overpowered is ELB damage which is where the majority of HoC usage lies.
I've already said, from my own experience and at least 50% of the people who are tanks and not using ELB's that I've spoken to find a HoE much better for their team as the damage increase from STR fairs better to the strategy than the extra round.

48Zach September 16 2007 9:18 PM EDT

No.

I'm tired of everyone wanting to re-introduce supporter items.. NO!

It's one of the slight advantages that a veteran should have. NUBs get more money to upgrade weapons, Free BA, better forging efficieny.. What do the vets get? If your going to be stubborn and say a high MPR character, I beleive that NewLevithian got to 1.7mil MPR before his NUB ended, and to me, that is a high character..

If a NUB really needs a supporter item, they can make enough money to purchase one.. If you don't have the NUB and need one, you should have got one when they were cheap? I don't have a NUB and I have one? I also wasn't around when they were the supporter item.. Why do I have one? Because I PAID for it and because I like it.. It's an advantage I should have over the NUB's I fight that can add over 1mil NW onto their ELB every day.

QBOddBird September 16 2007 10:03 PM EDT

"tell what strategy besides the melee/uc fighter doesnt use the HoC? Everyone that has something firing in ranged, be it DD be it arrows, needs the HoC!"

Rephrase that to:

tell what strategy besides the melee/uc fighter doesnt use the HoC? Everyone that has something firing in ranged, be it DD be it arrows, *would work better with* the HoC!

Good lord, do you absolutely *have* to have everything and have it on the cheap?

lostling September 16 2007 10:12 PM EDT

i used to think that everyone should get an item... but looking at the posts and point made... im incline to agree that yes supporter items should not be reintroduced...
as the time goes on and some people run away... i would think that jon should spawn a limited amount in auctions like 2-3 per year to make up for those supporter items we lose to people who quit and stuff...
