If you could imagine the internet as a shape or object, what would it be?

karlos666uk September 21 2007 10:11 PM EDT

i think it would be in the shape of the universe as it is forever expanding and then one day it will collapse in on it self

Acres and acres of kudzu.

A huge, and I mean HUGE pile of tubes, cables and transistors. Let's say, planet huge. And, scary HUGE.

It all makes sense to me, at least :)

PS: I curse Asimov for my current view of the Internet.

A massive world, I keep thinking of earth, but different.

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] September 21 2007 11:46 PM EDT

If you cut down a tree and look at the roots from the cut off trunk from the center out. Now imagine the roots and rootlets covering the earths entire surface and meeting back at the trunk and joining into the trunk again in a loop of infinity or infinite jest and the jokes on us ? Eh! either or !

A huge house with no windows that smells bad. Long dark corridors and lots and lots of rooms filled with rubbish. Rats and spiders everywhere. And clowns. Always clowns.

Some of the rooms are filled with people sorting through the rubbish looking for shiny things. None of the people have faces, just marker pen scribbles for eyes and mouths.

Sometimes the doors to the rooms are locked. Sometimes you go through a door and don't end up where you expected to be.

hey whats wrong with my reply

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] September 22 2007 10:34 AM EDT

i think of the internet as a huge rambling, disheveled maze of pathways and corollaries. it is full of special interest groups each vying for attention and power. anyone with an opinion can be heard regardless of the worth of said opinion. every time you query the data you get a different response, none of which are entirely accurate. in a nutshell, i picture the internet as the u.s. federal government.

Nothing at all karlos, mem and I had about a hour long debate over the universe and its origins/future, and I thought it was funny about how your post related to my argument.
