My thoughts on ranged - what about yours? (in General)

There's currently an outcry about evasion's 'brokeness'. What I don't understand is how we can say 'ranged damage is too high' at the same time as 'ranged doesn't hit often enough through evasion'.

What?

Shall we just add these ranged rounds to melee and have them work exactly the same way? (lower damage higher chance to hit)

I don't know about you, but I think there's a really nice interplay at the moment - range does do large damage, but it's also got to fight through a nasty evasion! It's also the only ONLY way that a mage can avoid being ravaged by an MSB. If you nerf evasion, forget ever beating someone with an MSB - tanks can just train EC and gain a HUGE benefit to beating both mages and tanks.

its kinda like a tug-of-war thing because it keeps going back and forth with the high damage/cant hit thing but i think its balanced

see i can when if i make it to melee but if i get hit in ranged im doomed lol

Ages ago I suggested a way of merging the two types of rounds into one, with the weapon equipped by a minion determinind how it attacked, and what effect the other types of attacks had on it.

But I don't have it saved anywhere, and I coldn't find it when searching through my old posts. :(

Yeah, like GW said. If you want to beat any decent archer you almost MUST train Evasion.

At the same time, for most archers trying to fight evasion, you almost MUST have a ToA to hit them.

Like Sut would say, it's binary. 1 or 0. Do or don't. Win or lose. That makes a game less exciting. :/

A consistent viewpoint that a surprising number and surprisingly varied type of player come up with on threads about ranged ends up not being a single solution. Few people ever said to just reduce Evasion or to just reduce ranged damage. The consolidated viewpoint asks for both to reduce the binary nature of fights.

And that viewpoint ends up encompassing many other facets: reducing ToA pth, issues with layered damage reduction, and the fact the MgS should be removed from the game (OK, that last one was just me... *smile*)

imho, evasion is the only counter to usd. if we nerf evasion then we pretty much admit that usd rules all. while many of us believe this to be true we are also loathe to admit it.

ok, why not just nerf both physical ranged damage and evasion together so that non-evasion teams have a chance? Or introduce some armor that specifically reduce ranged physical damage?
