Mr. Chairman is becoming very harsh... (in General)

Talion October 8 2007 8:59 AM EDT

Come on!

I was bidding $7.25M on $8.25M Displacement Boots and Mr. Chairman overbid me!

Give us a break man!

Adminedyit [Superheros] October 8 2007 9:03 AM EDT

there's still 12 minutes left to go on that auction if you really want them then you still have plenty of time to place another bid.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] October 8 2007 9:04 AM EDT

How about you give us a break from the whining and bid enough?
You're bidding below NW so expect there to be a good chance the valuation is at least NW.

TrueDevil [AAA] October 8 2007 9:16 AM EDT

With the current spike of price for DB, you should be thankful to get that DB at that price... I'm just guessing but I think Mr Chairman would bid up to 9 mil or so.

Talion October 8 2007 1:21 PM EDT

"You're bidding below NW so expect there to be a good chance the valuation is at least NW."

That statement makes absolutely no sense. That would mean that Mr.Chairman would bid on a pair of DB's worth $100M if the bid was $95M. Ridiculous.

An I did get the DB's, but even with the current price of base DB's (around $2.5M to $3.5M) I could have asked someone to forge a base pair of DB's at 70% and it would have cost me about the same. My max bid was calculated at about base auction price +60%. Apparently, that wasn't enough.

Anyways, I guess I am overreacting a bit, but I still had to bid an extra $400K over what Mr. Chairman bid to get the boots. I still think that is a bit steep.

Adminedyit [Superheros] October 8 2007 1:48 PM EDT

I might seem a bit biased in this case since i am the seller, but good, i'm glad CB bid on my DB's and raised the price on them, i can see how you as a buyer don't like it but look at it from my point of view as a seller.

AdminG Beee October 8 2007 2:12 PM EDT

Your mistake Talion was to bid too soon. Given that you were able to bid at the end of the auction you should have waited until _after_ Mr Chairman had placed his bid before making your own.

Mr C will only ever make one bid and it will only ever be one increment above the current highest (if I remember correctly). You could have purchased one increment lower than you eventually had to if you'd "played the auction game" more efficiently.

"I could have asked someone to forge a base pair of DB's at 70% and it would have cost me about the same. My max bid was calculated at about base auction price +60%."

As a forger, my advice is that you don't forge DBs at 70%.

And you added 60% to the base price, not 70%, right?

Talion October 8 2007 8:34 PM EDT

"Your mistake Talion was to bid too soon."

I cannot be online 24 hours a day. The fact that I logged on in time to check the end of the auction during a weekend day was pure coincidence.

"And you added 60% to the base price, not 70%, right?"

No, I added about 60%. DB are going for about $2.5M. I added about 5$ million to that, which is about 60% of $8.25M. I think that is a normal price which not not have been increased by Mr. Chairman. But the opinions in this thread seem to contradict that.

Lord Bob October 8 2007 9:38 PM EDT

I still say do away with Mr. Chairman altogether. He's by far the worst feature in this game.

48Zach October 8 2007 9:42 PM EDT

"He's by far the worst feature in this game."

No.

lostling October 8 2007 9:45 PM EDT

Aargh [Closer to the Stars] October 9 2007 3:41 AM EDT

Meh. Last time this discussion came up I wrote a whole argument about why Mr Chairman is a very bad feature, and that the thing it's meant to do could be done a different, far less annoying way, but it seems no one cares.

Or at least, the right people don't care.

Flamey October 9 2007 6:14 AM EDT

""He's by far the worst feature in this game."

No."

What is the worst feature then?

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] October 9 2007 1:10 PM EDT

The worst feature is the tap dancing spiders as they easily get out of rhythm .

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] October 9 2007 1:13 PM EDT

"What is the worst feature then?"

Unlimited posting.

QBsutekh137 October 9 2007 1:19 PM EDT

I don't know, "The Last Kiss" (with Zach Braff) was a pretty abysmal feature.

QBJohnnywas October 9 2007 1:26 PM EDT

GL's glass left eye is a pretty bad feature

That is now the worst feature :P

AdminNightStrike October 11 2007 2:23 PM EDT

Talion -- you could always just ignore auctions. That's what I do.

Lord Bob October 13 2007 1:37 PM EDT

""He's by far the worst feature in this game."

Yes.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] October 13 2007 6:18 PM EDT

Talion, at that level of NW on a rare and popular item, bidding below NW is unlikely to win you the auction.
Of course a 100mill NW pair wouldn't fetch anywhere near 100mill but an 8mill pair will almost certainly reach it's NW.
