Official QB Quarter 3, 2007 Nominees With Q&A Responses (in Contests)

Adminedyit October 11 2007 4:44 PM EDT

This thread is Carnage Blender's permanent record for Quarter Blender 2007, Quarter 3. This thread will remain locked.

Chatmails have been sent to each nominee. Each chatmail contains 5 questions. The questions are a combination of questions asked before in the previous QB election and some questions asked via the nomination ballot. Upon receiving the responses, I will post them here to help aid your QB vote. Responses must be turned in to me (by E-mail) no later than 8:00 PM EDT on Saturday, October 20, 2007.

The questions that the nominees will be answering (listed right below this post) will certainly be used to narrow down the choices quite a bit to help decide who will be crowned QB 2007, Quarter 3. And now...

The Nominees (in alphabetical order):

The questions that they have to answer are:

1) If Jon allowed you to nerf or buff item, what item will it be and why do you want to nerf / buff it? Explain.

2) Give one reason you should NOT be considered for this honor.

3) When playing CB do you need to know the exact numbers and formulas of how things work (what each point of AC actually reduces) or are you happy to just know that they do work (more AC means less damage)?

4) If you could make one change to CB, what would it be and why? Explain.

5) Zombie, vampire, or werewolf? Why?

1) If Jon allowed you to nerf or buff item, what item will it be and why do you want to nerf / buff it? Explain.

I would alter the MgS to make it based on a points per plus reduction scale instead of a percentage. The percentage based reduction is different than almost any other item in CB, I think making it's reduction a fixed amount of damage per + makes a lot more sense. As it currently exists, a small MgS can reduce a significant portion of even the largest DD spell, the balance of XP to NW isn't there.

2) Give one reason you should NOT be considered for this honor.

I'm ill tempered, and don't always exhibit the qualities I believe are essential to being a QB. Just the other day someone was sharing what they believed to be the case about a certain topic, they persisted in being wrong (and in sharing their ignorance with someone asking questions) despite multiple people explaining whatever it was. Rather than calmly trying to explain the mistake, I told them (in public chat) something that could have been boiled down to "You're wrong, again, and still sharing it like you know what you're talking about, no one is listening". It was unneeded, and mean (I did say I was sorry later on).

3) When playing CB do you need to know the exact numbers and formulas of how things work (what each point of AC actually reduces) or are you happy to just know that they do work (more AC means less damage)?

I play by feel, the only time I run the numbers is when I have to give evidence of a bug I feel exists. I do like knowing the result of my gut feelings, like when I managed to get a ToE/Heavy AC combo to reduce about 95% of physical damage, seeing that number was exciting, more exciting that just watching people hit me for 20k with a massive weapons.

4) If you could make one change to CB, what would it be and why? Explain.

I would make the Bio section be actually linked to some visible page.

5) Zombie, vampire, or werewolf? Why?

Werewolf; Possible cure for male pattern baldness, plus you're still alive. I can't see being Undead as all that fun, I'm too guilty a person to eat babies and drink hot maiden blood anyway, I'd feel bad for not calling them afterwards.

1) If Jon allowed you to nerf or buff item, what item will it be and why do you want to nerf / buff it? Explain.

It was the ToA until last changemonth, so I suppose it would be the BoM now. I think that it shouldn't be a power shield, and it shouldn't give a penalty to ST for 2-handed weapons. Or if it that is seen as overpowered, we could have it that it just doesn't penalise the 2-handed weapon users, but still remain a power shield. I'd put it to a vote, what the community likes better out of those two options, I imagine it'd be the first as I don't think it'd be overpowered. Even if it was to be changed, there are still 4 shields that are competitively used, the MgS has its place for anti-Mage, the BoM has it's place for stat boosting for Tanks, the MS is used for heavy AC and walls and the kite shield is a low penalty AC shield, usually for mages. Those options would still be viable with this change.

2) Give one reason you should NOT be considered for this honor.

The simple cliché response, the other nominees are better than me. Novice and Nerevas should definitely get it before me, if I am ever to get it.

3) When playing CB do you need to know the exact numbers and formulas of how things work (what each point of AC actually reduces) or are you happy to just know that they do work (more AC means less damage)?

Not exact, roughly would be nice, I'm not a number cruncher. If I have a vague difference between 300 AC and 100 AC it would be nice, but just saying AC gives more armour is a little lacking.

4) If you could make one change to CB, what would it be and why? Explain.

Clans, I don't think all the top players should be in the same clan, I don't know a good way to implement this. For starters it would be helpful if CP for yearly, monthly and stuff were to not be erased when leaving a clan, they should be how much the user has fought not just for the specific clan. Another choice would be to make forging more efficient, where it's more equal than it is currently. That it can still be beneficial for the forger to forge for a living and for the person to use a forger over the BS.

5) Zombie, vampire, or werewolf? Why?

I don't like any of them. They're all basically humans that can't do much. Zombies are just dead, and the typical zombie is silly, a dead person walking around slowly, ever so scary. Vampires just don't die and want your blood, fair enough. Werewolves would probably be the best, seeing as they could beat the other two, even if they don't die, werewolves would still kick their butt. I think I randomly filled up this space enough."

Nerevas

1) If Jon allowed you to nerf or buff item, what item will it be and why do you want to nerf / buff it? Explain.

I'd nerf the exbow/axbow to be dependent on attacker stat vs. defender stat to some degree. It should require at least 3 hits to nuke an equal level str/dex imo regardless of weapon size. At high level with 1 hit being enough to reduce you to 0, even evasion is almost not enough against those weapons.

2) Give one reason you should NOT be considered for this honor.

Your mom. 'Nuff said.

3) When playing CB do you need to know the exact numbers and formulas of how things work (what each point of AC actually reduces) or are you happy to just know that they do work (more AC means less damage)?

I learn the game by "feel". I have a feel of how stats of different sizes (proportionately) interact and how different strategies clash. But in alot of instances, I wanted to learn what the numbers were doing in order to gain that feel. Some of CB's game dynamics are a little too complicated for easy explanation, and extensive testing can be costly and requires resources that aren't always available (items, specific character types, etc etc) so in some of those cases just learning the workings of the numbers can build theory that substitutes for the hands on experience. All to go back to getting a 'feel' on how everything works in conjunction with each other. The end product is being able to look at any two strategies, seeing all their strengths and weaknesses, and automatically know who the victor in your head.

4) If you could make one change to CB, what would it be and why? Explain.

I would make whatever change Jon wants to make. Because I prefer not to worry about change and enjoy the game as is. Seriously, I don't want to even wrack my brain with trying to change things.

5) Zombie, vampire, or werewolf? Why?

Vampire. Zombies are mindless, and werewolves don't mingle with public well. I'm a night person anyway. As for drinking blood, I'd probably just eat alot of steak dinners- cooked very rare.

1) If Jon allowed you to nerf or buff item, what item will it be and why do you want to nerf / buff it? Explain.

I have to agree with Nere on this, I don't like the Ax/Ex bow model now. Since the change to a constant cost for weapon x a % drain per x has been a potential problem. I would like to see Jon re work it completely but barring that a simple cap on % drain per hit could suffice. It has been this way for a long time so a change does not seem likely, though with more big spenders at last realizing their potential a change may eventually be forced.

2) Give one reason you should NOT be considered for this honor.

I add nothing to the game beyond the occasional brash comment on why someone is wrong.

3) When playing CB do you need to know the exact numbers and formulas of how things work (what each point of AC actually reduces) or are you happy to just know that they do work (more AC means less damage)?

While I have worked out the numbers in a couple of instances and am always interested in other people's findings I tend to work on a more gestalt understanding of the game dynamics.

4) If you could make one change to CB, what would it be and why? Explain.

The N*B. I won't say scrap it completely anymore, I think we are now beyond that. As an example of answer 2 I have no real positive suggestions to offer. Perhaps an extension of the timespan with a tapering bonus so that new users don't get such a shock when it expires.

5) Zombie, vampire, or werewolf? Why?

Vampire - I only come out at night ;)

1) If Jon allowed you to nerf or buff item, what item will it be and why do you want to nerf / buff it? Explain.

No item. Ranged mechanics need work, but the balance isn't all that bad right now.

2) Give one reason you should NOT be considered for this honor.

Duh. And if you need a better reason, consider the fact I answered "duh" to this question.

3) When playing CB do you need to know the exact numbers and formulas of how things work (what each point of AC actually reduces) or are you happy to just know that they do work (more AC means less damage)?

I find a balance, personally. I want to know what everything does, but I don't pull out a calculator to do it. Yes, I know AC roughly reduces .21 damage, but when I'm doing the math, it's just .2. I'm lazy like that ^.^

4) If you could make one change to CB, what would it be and why? Explain.

I would just make it a larger game. Like... magically force 20000 people to start playing. Once that happens, the game could really start going places. And that's what I want to see.

5) Zombie, vampire, or werewolf? Why?

Well... A vampire is just a type of zombie. And I'm already kinda wolfish in my name... so Vampire. Blood, and violence and beauty and majesty and eternal life... How could one not find such a thing interesting? And flight. Muahaha.
