I'm looking to improve the security on my computer and was wondering what (preferably free) software the experts here at CB recommend.
Please keep in mind the noted budget :)

OpenSSH secure shell.
IPtables firewall.
Openswan IPsec VPN.
All Open Source.

not free, but quite cheap, Trend Micro PC-cillin, its quite good even in infested/ infected environs.

Just to clarify (incase the enquiry didn't make it obvious).
I have 'limited' technical proficiency so anything to tricky or labour intensive isn't going to be much good.
