NCB Improvement Proposal (in General)

FailBoat[SG] [Forever Alone] October 22 2007 4:08 AM EDT

NCB Improvement Proposal:

Current NUB Length: 4 Months
Current NUB % Bonus: 211
Information on the % Bonus might be old but its what I'm using to base my proposal.

I know this is something that alot of people scoff at but with the current way the game is, the only way to advance and get gear is to either have the NUB Bonus or to spend USD on CB$. Don't get me wrong, most people have figured out how to play right but there are those of us who either didn't play enough when we had our NUB Bonus, or others who never even had one upon starting.

With Auction prices rising higher and higher, it makes things alot harder on those without a high level team to back a NCB. Now, some people will say that it is possible to rise the ranks by spending USD on CB$, and for those that do this I don't care, but some of us are either unwilling to pay others for an ingame currency or too poor to afford it.

Sure, the current rate of CB$ to USD is only 1mil CB$ to $7.50 but that is still something I can't see paying as I paid less than that to become a supporter and don't see a reason to pay another player more than I paid Jon.

But, I'm offtopic now.

What I'm suggesting is a recreation of the NUB Bonus, leaving the current one intact and also leaving the NCB intact. The pretense behind this is that it wouldn't be a full NUB Bonus but would allow players to be able to try to get back on a level playing field with others.

This new NUB Bonus would be similar to the current one with a length of four months but a Bonus % of half of the current NUB Bonus.

Understandably, you are thinking "What prevents someone from making this NUB over and over, taking advantage of it and pulling in far more than they can now?" The only way to GET this Bonus is to pay Jon a certain amount, decided upon by him, to have this bonus applied to a new character. And, it would only be accessible once every twelve months from the creation of that character.

Ideas, comments and suggestions are more than welcome

sure i dont mind it... but have you heard of something called inflation?

FailBoat[SG] [Forever Alone] October 22 2007 4:44 AM EDT

Inflation doesn't make it so someone like me, who doesn't have a team over 100k MPR, NUB or is willing to spend USD on CB$, can't even play a game they enjoy and hope to rise to any point in the ranks.

lostling October 22 2007 4:50 AM EDT

i just think that there should be an option for NUBs called vacation... thats all :)

Ragatag October 22 2007 4:54 AM EDT

i have spent no USD + i dont have NUB, and you can easily get a character over 100k MPR if you just work at it thats all. start a single minion NCB, use it to save money then when thats done you'll have millions to spend for another.

Ragatag October 22 2007 4:54 AM EDT

i meant just a normal character :), NCB would be a waste

Ragatag October 22 2007 4:55 AM EDT

also loans are very useful for getting up there and the $$

FailBoat[SG] [Forever Alone] October 22 2007 5:17 AM EDT

Loans put you in debt.

Working a Single FB Mage team up to the end of its NCB and then starting over basically wastes the four months of your life you spent farming with that one character.

They're both temporary fixs to a problem that, in my honest opinion, is slowly killing CB and the fun that some of us have here. I already know I'll never catch the Top 5 guys. But the ability to think I might catch the Top 100 is still something I'd like to entertain.

Kong Ming October 22 2007 5:19 AM EDT

NCB is actually not very fun after one month because you'll get stuck when you reach the higher levels. Less opponents that will give you good rewards. What I am doing now is to start a normal character and play at a leisure pace. I can buy all BA since it is cheaper and enjoy getting good clan scores. Heck, I can even stop to forge my gears since there is no time limit for my character unlike a NCB.

lostling October 22 2007 5:21 AM EDT

loans are actually there for a reason... i have nthing much to say.... the fact is that this would be easily abused and isnt a good way to solve the "problem" i just dont think this is a problem at all

FailBoat[SG] [Forever Alone] October 22 2007 5:32 AM EDT

Lostling, bud, loans are not PART of CB. Loans are done by people nice enough to put faith in others with little to no collateral, more often than not. They are NOT something Jon put in place when he designed CB.

And for having nothing to say on the matter, why do you keep making posts? This isn't a thread to make yourself become noticed in, this is a thread for discussion on something that I, and others, feel is an issue that is starting to arise.

Kong, I actually think I may end up doing just that and making a normal character after the NCB on this one is gone. I'd do it now but he's become my main source of income, what little can be done on that, and gear for whatever team I decide to make next.

But for those who want to aspire to make a new team and make it to the Top 10, while not having plenty of USD backing or a NUB bonus, they might as well just give up before they start.

Ragatag October 22 2007 5:41 AM EDT

catching up to top 100? its pretty simple, get a loan, get a NCB and you're off. if you dont want to waste 4 months of your life then just start a ncb now, you'll be in the top100 before your ncb runs out

*did i say jon created loans? i just said theres a reason loans exist*

*i didnt reply to this thread to get myself noticed, and neither have i the wish to be noticed. i replied to this thread because i was discussing it and i just ran suggestions to make. Since its clear that "Ideas, comments and suggestions are NOT more than welcome" i shall stop replying to this post after this reply.

sorry "ran out of suggestions"

"its pretty simple, get a loan, get a NCB and you're off."

So you take a 20m loan (JUST for buying BA) in an attempt to get to the top. But, oh no, you don't have the equipment to compete. Either you be a mage, and struggle horribly against damage reduction, or you be a weaponless tank. Then you have to actually think about paying that loan back, with a few million interest added on.

Those of us who didn't have a NUB, didn't use their NUB to it's full capacity, or started before there was a NUB and only played off and on, there's no realistic way to get to the top without spending USD. That is, of course, unless you feel like spending more than four months getting enough money to buy all your BA and have decent equipment for ONE NCB.

I think there definitely should be a way for those of us who didn't use the 'building up' time of a NUB or before-NUB creation to be able to get enough money to compete. Or at least do something to settle down the inflation. Competing with NUBs and their hordes of cash doesn't sound very fun, and I don't feel like spending months of money on a single AoF, or a barely-upgraded pair of DBs. But, you know, that's just me.

I love how one of the people advocating for the use of loans is a person who offers loans himself. ;)

I never had a NUB; there's a few of us around who didn't. But I do feel the pain of the NCB climb.

And yet while my last char Johnnywas never really got far above a million MPR he was in and around the top 30 standings, sometimes getting as high as top 15, although not for long! That same character was never treated to bought BA because I wanted to upgrade the weapons. And yet I was pretty damn successful at being competitive. No chance in catching up to Ranger mind.

So, ok you can't necessarily build a HUGE char without cash you can run an NCB competitively if you want. To say it's impossible is, frankly, rubbish.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] October 22 2007 9:22 AM EDT

I never had a NUB. Tragically, neither did Sut.

QBJohnnywas October 22 2007 9:23 AM EDT

It's a hardship. Stunted growth and all that...

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] October 22 2007 9:42 AM EDT

I used NCB because i joined on the first day of cb2, before the NUB creation. My current char bought BA only on Exp times during its NCB reign, and look where it got it to now. Always had enough money since i only bought during Exp times, so yea, i dont see how you can complain about not getting past 100k MPR when you really can rather easily.

Ragatag October 22 2007 9:43 AM EDT

my NUB stopped 2 years ago, and i dont remeber using it well at all either.

and yes if you take out a big loan it might be a bad idea because that requires a long term commitment thus i've never taken out a big loan. however a small sum like 5~6 maybe even upwards of 7 or 8 mil will help alot to get a decent NCB going, especially if the strat doesn't need too much $$

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] October 22 2007 10:24 AM EDT

i have never had a nub as well, my current character did get the ncb though.

horseguy001 [Blender 2021] October 22 2007 10:33 AM EDT

I am of the camp of thought that it *should* be hard to compete to get up to the top. As far as game mechanics go, its definitely not impossible. I bit the bullet and spent USD for this NCB, and so far thanks to the fixed bonus am flying up in MPR (highly likely to hit 1 mil mpr in my first month). That means I will get the chance to power level my tattoo, which will help out even more.

The problem with continually increasing cash rewards is you will never be able to increase them to an amount that will match a USD spender. Since a good chunk of the top 20 are spending USD, you will have to match them in order to compete.

I don't really think its all that fair to want to be a top contender without putting in any real effort. Even with the fixed NCB, dedication and buying no BA (but not missing any either), you should be able to get up close to 2 mil mpr, and will have made a good 20 mil in that time. Go buy a nice weapon or gear with that cash, for your decent sized character.

Yukk October 22 2007 10:43 AM EDT

When I started, I had NUB. THen again, I really was a Noob. I made all the usual mistakes. I didn't speak to my mentor, I didn't even buy BA for a month and a half. I'm not doing heroically well, but considering how much I wasted, I think my standing is reasonable.
Even as an archery team, I still make money buying all my BA and arrows (non-base).
It doesn't kill me to save up for 2 weeks to buy something I want. Unless people are complaining that they can't save money because they are using +10 ammo or sinking every $CB into growing their weapon, then it's just remembering that this is a long game. It's not minesweeper.

QBJohnnywas October 22 2007 10:50 AM EDT

"it's just remembering that this is a long game. It's not minesweeper. "

That's it in a nutshell Yukk. Spot on. ;)
