Carnageblender (v2.0) (in General)

Dark Dreky October 22 2007 11:32 AM EDT

Why don't we get rid of the "2" and replace it with a version number?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] October 22 2007 11:38 AM EDT

Because it's not a version of the original, it's completely different game?

Dark Dreky October 22 2007 12:28 PM EDT

Then why not give it a new name?

QBsutekh137 October 22 2007 12:30 PM EDT

Because it's a sequel.

Dark Dreky October 22 2007 12:37 PM EDT

Well then I hope it's a trilogy. Cause trilogies are always awesome!!!!

I made this post because I've always felt a slight threat that CB2 will cease to exist and that there will be a CB3. I do not want this to happen, at all. I'd like to think that CB can just change and evolve to always be wonderful.

I never played CB1 so I really have no idea what it was like or what the similarities between 1 and 2 are, however I feel that the "Part 2" suggests that there will be an end to this "part" which will then give birth to a third! Nooo!

bartjan October 22 2007 12:43 PM EDT

CB2 was made so that there would be no need for a CB3.

Differences From CB1

AdminNightStrike October 22 2007 1:12 PM EDT

It's not a completely different game at all. A completely different game would be something like Master of Orion.

Dark Dreky October 22 2007 2:00 PM EDT

"CB2 was made so that there would be no need for a CB3."

I'm not sure I see logic in this statement. I mean CB2 would have to be created for there to eventually be a CB3... I just find that there is no assurance that CB2 will last!

Another thing is that when people (new players) see the name CB2. They often wonder, "What's CB1 like?" At least this is what I have experienced. Sadly, I have to tell people, "I don't know. But it wasn't good apparently because they had to make a new one."

I feel that there would be no harm in called Carnage Blender 2, simply Carnage Blender. I feel there would only be good that came from the change (i.e. new players wouldn't feel threatened by not having CB1 experience) and that it would give CB a more defined and serious look!!

BootyGod October 22 2007 3:19 PM EDT

I agree with DD completely. I know when I started the constant references to CB1, a game I could never play or experience, were very.... alienating. I felt like a trespasser on the vet's game. Getting rid of that 2..... Hmm... It's a good idea.

Khardin October 22 2007 3:31 PM EDT

I think it would be even more 'alienating' without the 2. There would be posts/discussions which referred to CB1 and you would no clue what they were talking about. I don't think pretending there wasn't CB1 is going to confuse new players less.

I'm not sure I see the logic in this idea. A version number doesn't mean there won't be another one, it tends to mean the exact opposite. There will be many other ones.

Hyrule Castle [Defy] October 22 2007 5:55 PM EDT

I don't know about anyone else here...but when someone asks me "what are you playing" i dont say...carnage blender 2... i just say carnage blender... no one needs to know its the 2nd one :P

[P]Mitt October 22 2007 7:32 PM EDT

"CB2 was made so that there would be no need for a CB3."

And I still believe this is true.

In CB1, there was a magical number of AC (437 I think?) that once you hit that, there was virtually no damage getting through. Period. End of story. And Todd hit that number and also had his huge I Win lochaber axe (equivalent to the BoNE).

So then Jon created CB2 in the way that nobody could hit that 437 AC and become invincible. Oh and there were no tats, familiars, or runes in CB1.

Dark Dreky October 22 2007 9:02 PM EDT

"but when someone asks me "what are you playing" i dont say...carnage blender 2... i just say carnage blender..."

exactly! So just remove the 2! This is Carnage Blender in its truest form. Removing the '2' does not discount CB1 at all. Think of it as the new creature it has evolved to be...

Plus, there doesn't seem to be a large number of posts referring to CB1 (at least recently) so I doubt changing the number would confuse people. Plus if you put a version number people will not get confused at all. I dunno, I think it would have an overall positive affect on CB's reputation and appearance.

"CB2 was made so that there would be no need for a CB3."

If I understood things correctly, the main differences between CB1 and CB2 were in the way that the games are programmed. It's not about the restrictions that prevent users from becoming overpowered, but about the fact that CB2 is more easily modified and maintained.

CB1 started as a chatroom with a simple game, and grew into a game. Being continually modified and added to, the code got too complex to deal with effectively. That's why Jon created CB2, which also provided the opportunity to change and add new game features.

Because of the way the code is now designed, it should not be necessary to create an entirely new game to make significant changes.

"So then Jon created CB2 in the way that nobody could hit that 437 AC and become invincible."

You can VERY well reach 437 AC, it will just cost dump-load after dump-load of cash to reach it.. Highest I've seen so far is 410-415 I believe.

Iluvatar[NK] October 22 2007 9:31 PM EDT

It's 477. And even then only physical. And even then it only works some of the time [since there is a randomness factor in AC] And even THEN there's VBs.

Don't worry, we won't have invincible minions for awhile yet.

AdminNightStrike October 22 2007 10:39 PM EDT

Well said. The fact that so many people have "cb1" in their usernames doesn't help.

Iluvatar[NK] October 22 2007 11:04 PM EDT

If this game was renamed Carnage Blender without the 2..

I wouldn't quit, necessarily. But I'd be offended and distressed, as would most of the other old boys.

There's really no reason for it. Say next year or whenever, StarCraft 2 comes out. Will people not play it because they haven't played StarCraft 1? It would be a silly reason. It would be even sillier if Blizzard renamed StarCraft 2 to cater to that group.

48Zach October 22 2007 11:05 PM EDT

Yea!!! I'll be offended! I was proud of my noobie days where wldflr was my mentor and Gun didn't think I was a heaume-head!

Dark Dreky October 23 2007 3:30 AM EDT

It's not about the "then"... its about the "now".

Lets get with the program! Its a good thing. Let go of the past, embrace the future!!

lostling October 23 2007 4:26 AM EDT

omj y are we even arguing about this lol... i DID play CB1 alittle but it sure doesnt make me a vet in any way lol
