Why change the weapon/armor store table? (in General)

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] October 23 2007 12:27 PM EDT

I understand if this new theme thing will allow more customization to CB2 and that it could be a good thing. I honestly never cared what CB looked like, as long as it functioned well. This new weapon/armor store table does not function nearly as well as the old table did. Can we have the weapon/armor store table returned to its old form? I am not against change, unless it is done only for its own sake. Can anyone offer a benefit the new store table has over the old table? I can offer the reverse, but reserve it for rebuttal if needed.

P.S. someone show someone how the new table can prevent cheating and bring back camping, and POOF instant fan created here!

one benefit i have noticed is the elimination of the "butterfly ballot" effect. this was where, since you had two columns, you would accidentally click on the check box closest to the item, which would actually be for a different item entirely.

Granted it didn't happen to me very often, but now there is no danger of it happening at all.

I find buying ammo is much more convenient then before, which I would assume makes up about 90% of all store transactions.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] October 23 2007 12:35 PM EDT

OK, I will give you that as a benefit, a small one perhaps. I cannot say I have ever experienced this butterfly balloting myself, and I have been as active in the stores as anyone on here, but if that helps you, who am I to say it does not. I do not think it outweighs the benefit of being able to quickly and easily scan the store for items you want, without having to scroll through a million single column items. When the server connection goes down but the server stays "up", and the store constantly generates inventory, without it being bought, the resulting store will be so long that you might get carpal tunnel spinning your scroll wheel to find the end of the list.

Serves you right for trying to purchase those traitorous democratic items.

How is having to scroll through multiple pages to see all the ammo, more convienent than seeing it all on one page?

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] October 23 2007 12:40 PM EDT

*just came back from the store*

Is there normally a great deal more ammo than is presently stocked? Because it's all at the top and not requiring any great wheel spinning on my part.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] October 23 2007 12:42 PM EDT

It just refreshed Bast, and is now considerably longer

AdminJonathan October 23 2007 12:44 PM EDT

calm down, the store is not finished

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] October 23 2007 12:45 PM EDT

I certainly was not un-calm, just did not like its current state and was lobbying for a change. If you say, be patient, you will like the end result, then I will be patient.

is the clan page finished? i prefer the old system (i don't mind the look) but the Old system made more sense... :/

Maelstrom October 23 2007 1:00 PM EDT

If I understand things correctly, the pages that have been re-formatted with the new theme are using "raw" alphabetically-ordered lists. Again, if I understand the concept behind the new themes correctly, it should be possible for user-created themes to specify the order that item types are arranged, and also how you want them formatted, such as with multiple columns.

AdminJonathan October 23 2007 1:02 PM EDT

not really. it's hard to believe but you still can't change the number of columns in pure css, at least not with any degree of cross-browser support.

AdminJonathan October 23 2007 1:03 PM EDT

> is the clan page finished?

yes

> the Old system made more sense

you were just used to it.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] October 23 2007 1:13 PM EDT

Thank you Jon, I will wait until it is finished before I comment further, it really was not THAT big of a deal just could not see it as an improvement, besides a more interesting social experiment has arisen.

Once the store is finished, and it looks drastically different (and hopefully better) will we see the same posters asking for a return to a single column format........only time will tell *wink*

Lumpy Koala October 23 2007 1:23 PM EDT

For some reason, the new pages seems to take a tad longer to load than old theme. I do not believe it's cache problem, since all my browser settings are the same and it's just slow every time I load the new store / clan page, as opposed to old layout like home / fight pages

AdminJonathan October 23 2007 1:33 PM EDT

it's possible your browser is taking longer to render them. from my timing CB is not taking longer to send the data.

drudge October 23 2007 2:51 PM EDT

if u dont like it, create a theme and display the store how you want to =)

Flamey October 24 2007 5:21 AM EDT

Actually I get that too, I seem to get a little lag on the new themed pages, not that it bothers me much.

Kong Ming October 24 2007 8:50 AM EDT

Just a suggestion, would it be better to group the same items together in the store? Meaning all arrows followed by bolts and then iron shots for ammo.
