We already have the tattoo artist which for a (high) fee will allow you to get any non-supporter tattoo from any other.
Why not allow players who REALLY want a Corn or whatever to make one themselves for a (obscenely high) $ and BA cost using the forge?
Existing code can be used, the player would simply forge a common item to a certain (ridiculously high) level and when a certain NW is reached a 'transmute' spell is useable in the forging process.
Once the item is transmuted, the forge dwarf then saws off your left arm and leg as payment...

What problem does this solve?

It solves the problem of forgers not being able to make money because they can't find work.
Also, eco clans can produce their own merchandise and sell it in auction. This could actually result in price wars on some items and reduce the cost.
Instead of voting on black market items, players simply commission for their creation and buy the finished product.

The intent was never for there to be "as much work as anyone who wants to forge can handle." If there's a problem, it's because there's more would-be forgers right now than the market will bear, and that's fine. Markets are good at self-correcting in that kind of situation.

Technically, isn't getting other people to forge for you outsourcing? As in you outsource the role of the blacksmith to a third party who you pay less? :P
