I'm going to run a new role-playing game, possibly on Tuesdays, but I'm willing to move some things around if I get enough people interested. This game is called "Cybergeneration" and you will be role-playing young people who become "cyberevolved" (think X-Men but without the spandex) through a plague of "nanites" in the first scene of the adventure. You will be living in the future (2027 to be exact). The future has new technology, but most of what you are used to still exists in the future.
- Kids in the future still play video game consoles, except now they have been all combined into one unit called the "Segatari". (The playstation and xbox both became full-on entertainment systems that are out of reach for most kids.)
- Police drive "spinners" (low flying hover car) instead of regular cars (although regular cars are just as prevalent in the future)
- Vehicles run on CH00H2 (Alcohol) instead of Gas
- For some good ideas of what the atmosphere is like, watch "Demolition Man", "1984", "The Running Man", "Max Headroom", "Hackers" and finally "Rebel Without a Cause"
On the plus side, after the "Collapse of the U.S." (the book's history runs contrary to what actual history was at this point, as the game book was written in 1993) from a Stock Crash, unemployment, homelessness and corruption, mega-corporations move in to re-build "Night City" using the "New America Project" as a template for the city. Unfortunately, the project goes awry, as ambitious projects normally do, and a powerful collation of gangs murder and hijack the project.
A few years later, corporations re-take the city in a hail of gunfire. After re-building the city to it's once pristine state they maintain a "CorpZone" in the city that is controlled completely by "CorpSec" and other private security forces, under corporate law.
Now, if you've managed to read this far, congratulations, you are almost ready to play, all you need to do is pick a YoGang (equivalent to a class in D&D), and you are ready to go. (the rest of the character creation process will happen as you play)
Click here to see a list of Yogangs and each of their special skills.
One last thing, in case you are coming from D&D and would like some pointers heres a few:
- At the end of a session you collect IP (improvement points) instead of Experience (same concept).
- There are no "levels" in this game, only IP; use them wisely to improve your character.
- You use a D10 (10-sided die) for just about everything in this game.
- Stat checks replace saving throws.
- Getting a 1 is a critical fumble (can have comical side-effects)
- Getting a 10 means you get to roll again and add the two die rolls together (can lead to amazing victories in some cases).
- Remember, you're playing a kid, so going Rambo on a group of adults will probably get you killed.
- Kids don't run around killing other kids... mostly; MegaViolents (one of the yogangs) being the exception to this.
- Although guns exist in the future, you're a kid, so you'll have to depend on that bat or knife for now.
- Just being a kid, and doing what a kid does can get you places in this game.
- Adults shouldn't be trusted.
- Adults, especially CorpSec have very bad weapons, try not to engage them directly in combat if possible; instead, use your childhood innocence against them. (They'll never suspect the 12 year old has an electric bolt weapon built into their arm [a bolter])
Please contact me if you are interested in this game or just have questions, I can give you a lot more information about the game in a better format, just send me an email, talk to me in chat, or CM me. :)
