T23: Follow the Rules

Rules:

Each of your minions must follow one of the following templates:

Rogue
Must train: May equip:

Defender
Must train: May Equip:
Warrior
Must train: May equip:
Archer
Must Train:May Equip:
Fireball Mage
Must train:
May equip:
Magic Missile Mage
Must train:May Equip:
Cone of Cold Mage
Must train:May equip:
Decay Mage
Must train:May equip:
Enchanter
Must train:May equip:
Summoner
Must train:Must equip:And May equip:

Enchanters and Summoners are the only minions allowed to equip tattoos of any kind.

If the category states you MUST train or equip something, then it is required that you have it, and you may not have anything else. For example: An enchanter must equip a familiar, but it may not equip any armors or weapons.

If the category states you MAY equip something, it is optional.
  1. Your minion names must be the name of the template (Ex: A summoner minion must be named Summoner)
  2. The tournament will begin on November 24rd at midnight, and end on December 1st at midnight.
  3. There will be a BA cap of 2000
  4. You must use at least 1000 BA.
  5. In the event of a tie (two people with the same winning combo) the prize will go to whomever has the highest score + MPR

Win Conditons
There are 10 secret combinations of minion types that will enable you to win, each one is worth a specific amount of points. Whoever score the top 3 point combos will win their respective places.

Minion order does not matter in combos.

Prizes:
  1. A Mage Shield
  2. 500k
  3. 150k
Hints:
  1. None of the combos use more than two enchanters.
  2. All combos use at least one mage.
  3. Of the four two minion strategies, none of them use enchanters, or summoners.
  4. There is only one 3-minion strategy, all three of its minions train a skill.
  5. Of the five 4-minion strategies, only one has no enchanters.
  6. between all five 4-minion strategies, every template is used at least once.
  7. The only time a minion is repeated in a team is with either an enchanter, or a fireball mage.

Tyriel [123456789] November 23 2007 8:29 PM EST

I'm not sure I get this.

We don't actually have to fight to win? All we have to do is pick the right combination of minions? Seems like a sort of... abstract way to find the winner in a tournament. Care to explain some more?

Also; no Monk?

Perhaps the Defender should actually be a Defender. Cannot equip weapons, but must equip a non-leather piece of armor in every slot, and trains HP and PL. :P

Also, when you say that you must train HP, DX, ST, etc., how much you have to train them? Can I just train my Archer up to 100 DX and leave it at that, or are there limits? I'm sure some people would rather have their Summoner with a base Junction and all the XP in AS... :P

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 23 2007 9:35 PM EST

added a new rule, clarified something, and no, you don't "have" to train it beyond base (HP/STR/DX must be above 20), but thats not really the idea of the tournament :)

NINAbuser November 23 2007 11:16 PM EST

Any hints? Are we supposed to use four minion teams for the combos or is it anywhere from 2-4 minions? Weapons for Mage minions for the first 50 ba maybe? What % bonus are we getting? I notice enchanters don't have a weapon restriction... or because it says we can't use them does that mean none at all? Enchanter must have a base ED and EO right? Why does the decay minion get such a bum rap :P? I'll post if I find more :P.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 23 2007 11:19 PM EST

combos range from 2-4 minions

for the first 160 BA I wont bother checking to see if the templates are being followed.

Unless it says you can use it, assume you cant.

Decay is weird. : )

NINAbuser November 23 2007 11:25 PM EST

Also the "Summoner" is he really any for the Familiar if he cant use armor as well?

QBOddBird November 24 2007 2:09 AM EST

Funnest. Tournament. Ever.

DrAcO5676 [The Knighthood III] November 24 2007 10:14 AM EST

Can Archers wear a shield? Can enchanters wear armor and a shield and if so what kind can they wear? Can Summoners wear armor pieces or a shield?

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 24 2007 10:22 AM EST

No, No, if it can be used with junction the summoner can equip it

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 24 2007 8:50 PM EST

First hint posted

QBOddBird November 24 2007 9:09 PM EST

This is my favorite tournament ever. Except the one I came up with. So this is my 2nd favorite. But this is my favorite to participate in! ;'D

NINAbuser November 25 2007 1:50 AM EST

So do we need to start making the combos now or can we stick with one minion teams and train them later?

NINAbuser November 25 2007 2:10 AM EST

For example: An enchanter must equip a familiar, but it may not equip any armors or weapons.

I think you mean Tattoo or Summoner :P

QBOddBird November 25 2007 9:41 AM EST

With only enchanters and summoners allowed to hold tattoos, the ToA is effectively DENIED! Oh yeah! Kill the ToA!

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] November 25 2007 11:57 AM EST

ToA isn't too great anymore anyway...

[P]Mitt November 25 2007 6:26 PM EST

If the category states you MUST train or equip something, then it is required that you have it, and you may not have anything else.

So for Decay Mage, you're only allowed to train Decay? As in, all your exp goes into decay, no HP, no Str, no Dx, nothing?

QBOddBird November 25 2007 6:52 PM EST

Sounds like an AS enchanter would be pretty much required...

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 25 2007 8:00 PM EST

Hint 2 posted

Iluvatar[NK] November 25 2007 8:07 PM EST

Does a summoner with a "mage" familiar count as a mage?

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 25 2007 10:13 PM EST

nope, familiar type is not a factor in combinations

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 26 2007 10:07 PM EST

Third hint posted.

48xVanished48 November 26 2007 10:30 PM EST

Sorry if I missed it, But how many hints are going to be told?

QBOddBird November 26 2007 10:31 PM EST

I'm betting no more than 7, considering it will end by then if he keeps doing them one a day. ;'D

48xVanished48 November 26 2007 10:33 PM EST

That seems like a lot of hints, IMO.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 27 2007 10:57 PM EST

Hint 4 posted - and considering there are over 10,000 potential combos, I think 7 hints is OK :)

NINAbuser November 28 2007 10:58 PM EST

Just a thought but I notice when reading wiki it pops the familiars as a fifth minion does this mean that a 3 minion strategy with a familiar is actually a 4 minion strategy?

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 28 2007 11:02 PM EST

familiars will not be counted as separate minions, only equipment

NINAbuser November 28 2007 11:08 PM EST

So my 5 pieces of armor are counted as 5 minions :P jkjk I can read.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 28 2007 11:39 PM EST

Hint 5 posted!

Hint 6 will also be a 4 minion hint.

un5een November 29 2007 10:00 AM EST

Do the people that get the top 3 point scoring combos all have to be different combos or can more then one of the same combo place.

NINAbuser November 29 2007 11:41 AM EST

Any hint on how the points are distributed I mean I can't see the 3 minion points being worth more than a 2 or 4 minion team now since your hint narrowed the category down so much compared to the others.

[P]Mitt November 29 2007 7:07 PM EST

un5een, I assume if 2 people have the same combo and it is the top point-value combo, they are ranked 1 and 2 (with respect to their score+MPR)

NINAbuser, as Slayer stated, there are over 10,000 different combinations you can try. I would say point value shouldn't matter; it's getting one of those 10 that actually gets points that does. After all, you have a 0.1% chance of being in the points.

NINAbuser November 29 2007 7:19 PM EST

I suppose but cmon what if its not right :P

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 29 2007 10:22 PM EST

"5. In the event of a tie (two people with the same winning combo) the prize will go to whomever has the highest score + MPR "

This means second place gets nothing.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 29 2007 11:43 PM EST

Hint 6 posted

[P]Mitt November 30 2007 12:51 AM EST

so slayer, let's just say there are 3 strategies that win points: Strategy 1, Strategy 2, Strategy 3(per se)

Strategy 1 is worth 4 points
Strategy 2 is worth 3 points
Strategy 3 is worth 2 points

If there are 4 players, A and B use Strategy 1, C uses Strategy 2, and D uses Strategy 3.
A has a higher MPR + Score than B.

Does this mean the people who will get the prizes are A, C, and D? even though B's strategy gets more points than C and D?

Or will the prizes go to A, B, and C? (1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively)

QBOddBird November 30 2007 1:11 AM EST

A, C, and D, yes.

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 30 2007 9:22 AM EST

A, C, and D would win

TheHatchetman November 30 2007 10:10 PM EST

Time to kiss yet another HoC goodbye! Muwahahahaha! >:)

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] November 30 2007 10:16 PM EST

The tournament will be extended by one day - you guys need more hints ;-)

48xVanished48 November 30 2007 11:08 PM EST

Good idea Slayer. ;) Maybe another 3 minion hint? Since theres only 1 combo. :)

NINAbuser November 30 2007 11:25 PM EST

O thank you so much for hint 7 I think I love you!

TheHatchetman December 1 2007 12:59 AM EST

I guess no more hints, as everyone's char was retired at midnight... Apparently extending it this time didn't work as well as it did against Diggles...

So, that being said, who is confident in their strategies? :P

QBOddBird December 1 2007 1:21 AM EST

Crap, it WAS retired!

Man. Now I can't boost my score/change my strat last minute to either pass AoD or use a strat that isn't already taken.

*frowns* I suppose I shouldn't have assumed it would reeeeally last another day...

TheHatchetman December 1 2007 1:57 AM EST

Ironic that a tourney called 'Follow The Rules' would break its own rules, eh?

Ulord[NK] December 1 2007 2:11 AM EST

I love competition that gets your hope up. It's more exciting that way. Like how I'm hallucinating abot winning that sweet sweet MGS right now. Too bad I didn't get to liquid date my gear in auction at $1 so I can buy them back again at ridiculous price all over again next tourney.

Btw, I reinked my tat 5 times this round. Anyone beat my record? :P

NINAbuser December 1 2007 2:31 AM EST

All I know is that my .01 junction says this was the best extra day in a tourney ever!

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] December 1 2007 8:05 AM EST

Thats weird - sorry the extension didn't "take", in I'll see how things look and depending on how many people scored combos I may;

1) Count all mages as the same type of minion
2) Count Enchanters and Summoners as the same type of minion
3) Count Warriors/Defenders as the same type of minion

QBOddBird December 1 2007 1:16 PM EST

I don't know how many times I re-inked, NK, but I think I might've broken your record. =\

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] December 3 2007 7:59 PM EST

Sorry the scoring is taking so long - having a busy week, hopefully it'll be done tomorrow

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] December 4 2007 5:36 PM EST

We have our winners!

  1. Pulchritude[NK]
  2. |Army|MrWizard06|
  3. NINAbuser

Congratulations to the winners!

What I ended up doing was allowing all mage types to count as one mage, however if you scored a combo with the wrong type of mage, the combo was worth one less point. If you scored with the correct mage, it was worth one more point.

If anyone wants to see the winning combinations, feel free to ask and I will post them

Ulord[NK] December 4 2007 5:39 PM EST

I would like to see the combos please :).

Congrats to the winners. Great Tourney!

NINAbuser December 4 2007 5:58 PM EST

Dang I would've been the only one to win if that extra day hadn't of been installed :P.

NINAbuser December 4 2007 5:59 PM EST

Dang sorry for double but Meteor would've won as well :P

Iluvatar[NK] December 4 2007 6:05 PM EST

Oh wow :P that was my initial build, but I retrained CoC to MM.

Thanks for the MS^^;

Phoenix [The Forgehood] December 5 2007 10:21 AM EST

it was a nice contest.. yeah..

:)

un5een December 8 2007 12:43 PM EST

You had a wrong hint by the way. You said that all teams included at least one mage but i see a combination with a rogue and an archer.

48xVanished48 December 8 2007 11:43 PM EST

Ouch. Thats true...
