this aint my week (in Off-topic)

so its that time again for me to format my laptop, nothing too serious right? well to my surprise this is a task all in vain. anyone ever try to format their hard drive only for your computer to shutdown without ever the hopes of completeing. thats awesome isnt it! well least to say its just over 365days old and the original manufactories warranty is no longer valid. go figure that such an awesome product should last days longer than its warranty.

so why would my laptop shutdown? this only started now. with no pre existing heating issues or power issues before i started to format. this only leaves me to know for sure this isnt a software issue, and that i have to get the hardware checked. this bites.

on top of that my glasses broke and my companies truck jsut got a flat tire ~_~

I'd check the power saving settings in your BIOS

I had my ram go bad and something similar happened, could be your power supply as well. Only problem with laptops is that there are so many little screws to get inside and no room. Good luck :)

my questions..

what kind of laptop? the brand, model, and processor type would be a good start.

what operating system are you using?

how exactly were you going to format the drive?
what were you doing when the computer shutdown? be as specific as possible.

what do you mean by shutdown? the power shut off? was there a message, a screen change, or any other event before the power went?

and what happens when you try to turn the laptop on now?

winxp on a hp dv2020ca with an amd turion x2 processor. formatting using a winxp cd, boot order was changed to cd first. would shut down at any given point. basically random. checked power options in bios, ok. tried a harddrive check thru the bios....shutdown. and no warning on shutdown, screen turns black and lights go out, its good night.
